We are currently recruiting for an Organ Donation Coordinator. This position will be located in one of our three offices: Greenville; Durham; Winston-Salem, NC.
Job Summary: The Organ Donation Coordinator facilitates organ donation in the HonorBridge service area by evaluating referrals and managing the entire organ donor process including medical management of the donor, organ allocation and overseeing organ recovery.

2. Facilitates organ donation
- Adheres to HonorBridge organ policies, procedures and protocols
- Oversees donor management process
- Initiates donor management orders to achieve hemodynamic stability and optimize organ function, consulting with Medical Director and Organ AOC as needed
- Evaluates organ suitability by obtaining consults from medical specialties, ordering tests and procedures, and interpreting results
- Coordinates case dynamics, discusses significant events and issues with the Organ AOC
- Directs and maximizes organ recovery process
- Ensures organ recovery is completed in accordance with hospital policy
- Communicates information specific to recovery process to hospital and transplant staff
- Performs necessary follow-up specific to the recovery process
3. Triages organ referrals from the HonorBridge answering service
- Follows HonorBridge policies and procedures
- Facilitates open communication between the HonorBridge answering service and hospital staff
- Initiates action and oversees logistics associated with organ referral process
- Evaluates potential candidates for organ donation
- Assesses and analyzes patient history, hospital course, laboratory values, and other pertinent clinical information used to determine suitability for donation
- Discusses organ suitability with Organ AOC and Medical Director, as needed
- Fosters open communication with hospital staff, communicates with care team about plan of care, hemodynamic stability, and actions needed to preserve the option of donation
4. Completes documentation completely and accurately
- Follows HonorBridge policy and procedures
- Reviews completed electronic donor record for accuracy
5. Will maintain electronic medical record (EMR) access to all available hospitals
- Utilizes medical information from remote or onsite EMR access to obtain and review available medical records
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient and donor/recipient information
6. Maintains clean, safe and organized work space
7. Actively assists with the HonorBridge quality assurance process
- Serves as a technical resource for organ referrals and donors
- Assists with the e-chart completion process
8. Strives to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with all levels of hospital personnel and
medical staff on a continual basis
- Constructs and maintains working relationships with hospital staff and physicians
- Works with Hospital Development Specialists to educate hospital staff about organ donation
9. Responds to administrative duties to include internal and external communication, projects and QA
tasks in a timely manner as defined by HonorBridge leadership
10. Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrator on Call and HonorBridge leadership
11. Must be prepared to be onsite at one of the “A” hospitals in their assigned region within one hour
from notification at all times when availability for clinical activity is required (includes full 12 or 24 hour
call days)

- For those assigned to the HonorBridge Winston Salem office this includes Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, or Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
- For those assigned to the HonorBridge Durham office this includes Duke University Hospital, UNC Medical Center, Rex Healthcare, or WakeMed Raleigh Campus
- For those assigned to the HonorBridge Greenville office this includes Vidant Medical Center, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, or Cape Fear Valley Health System.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting and/or carrying < 20 lbs: Greater than 65% of the time
Lifting and/or carrying < 50 lbs: Less than 35% of the time
Lifting and/or carrying < 100 lbs: Less than 35% of the time
Work Environment: normal office environment, normal hospital environment, operating room environment, extensive on-call responsibilities. Extensive automobile travel within service area and may travel in light aircraft as required.
Education and Experience: Medical/Clinical background required with critical care experience and at least four years in a clinical environment strongly preferred. Associates Degree or RN licensure required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred with a concentration in healthcare.
Certification and/or Registration: ABTC certification (CPTC) required within 2 years of eligibility.
Skills and Qualifications: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, demonstrated ability to manage stress, demonstrated ability to function in high-pressure situations, knowledge of operating room environment, experience in form completion and documentation, commitment to organ and tissue donation. Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
