IMMEDIATE OPENING for full-time Pathologists to support Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities:

The duties include but not limited to:

• Serves as Pathologist Physician at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, Maryland.
• Serves as a Staff Pathologist, and expert consultant, to the federal government in the diagnosis of disease in this specialized field of pathology.
• Initiates and conducts research in pathology.
• Diagnose consultations accurately and within the time frame set forth by guidelines within the College of American Pathologists and local policies.
• Extracts or works with patients’ body fluids, complete blood counts, peripheral smears or tissue; prepares patients’ specimens for examination, performs specialized or non-routine tests on body fluids or tissue samples, or confirms patients’ test results.
• Able to provide accurate information about the pathogenesis, histogenesis, biology, and differential diagnosis.
• Possess strong overall diagnostic and communicative skills with the ability to handle anatomic pathology, to include surgical pathology, cytopathology and clinical pathology, sign out of an active general pathology service.
• Perform frozen section diagnosis.
• Perform rapid, on-site evaluation of Fine Needle Aspirate procedures.
• Be able to consult with other specialty practitioners to provide optimal pathology advice.
• Meets all requirements to serve as medical director for services within WRNMMC and serves a laboratory director to outside facilities meeting all qualifications as outlines in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP ).
• Teaches residents, medical students, residents and fellows (scopeside during sign outs, lectures, unknown sessions, daily conferences).
• Develops and delivers lectures on topics covering all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology and laboratory management as scheduled.

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada.
• Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
• Must have documented expertise in one or more of the following Pathology subspecialty areas: Cytopathology, Hematopathology, Dermatopathology, Soft Tissue and Bone Pathology, Neuropathology, Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology, ENT/Endocrine Pathology, Urologic Pathology, Nephropathology, Pulmonary and Mediastinal Pathology, GYN/Breast Pathology, Cardiovascular Pathology, and Molecular Pathology.
• Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting
• Must have and maintain a current, active, valid unrestricted license in one of the 50 states in the US, the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
• Must be residency trained and board certified
