To transport patients as well as other items within the hospital setting using proper skills and techniques from one location or department to another.

Description Position Summary:

The Patient Transport Worker provides transportation of patients, patient's belongings, medical records, specimens, etc. to various areas of the institution to facilitate patient care.

Essential Functions:

• Transports patients to and from hospital service areas and patient rooms
• Anticipates and responds to customer needs
• Operates and moves beds, stretchers, and medical equipment as needed
• Safely moves patients with proper technique depending on the patient’s status
• Ensures that the person requesting the transport is informed of any delays, cancellations, and changes in the mode of transportation, as appropriate
• Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures regarding blood and body fluids precautions, exposure control, and hazardous waste
• Provides emergency assistance to patients who become ill during transport process until proper staff can be notified and assistance arrives
• Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalent2. Must be able to follow safety procedures and precautions

3. Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

4. Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

5. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of over 50 lbs.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements: Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs.). Examples: Nurses, LVNs, and physical therapists.

Environment: Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient cares providers and laboratory technicians

Respiratory Category: Job tasks potentially include frequent or routine exposure to aerosolized particulate matter or infectious respiratory droplet nuclei and required fit testing and the use of respiratory protection is a condition of employment."

Hazard 1, 2, or 3: OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Category 1: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.

Hazard 4: Tasks that involve, or may involve, exposure to OSHA regulated substances as stated in MSDS.

Hazard 5: Ionizing Radiation Potential Hazard: Personnel may be exposed to ionizing radiation if near portable and fixed X-ray machines used during diagnostic procedures. The degree of exposure depends on the amount of radiation, the duration of exposure, the distance from the source and the type of shielding in place

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.09 - $18.17 per hour
