Peer Support Specialist Job at First Resources Corp
First Resources Corp. of Washington is growing and we are searching for dedicated and energetic Part-time Peer Support Specialist.
The ideal candidate would be a person with a mental health and/or co-occurring conditions, who is certified or willing to be certified to help others with similar conditions. Using their own experience and training they will receive, the ideal candidate would be assisting others to identify goals they would like to achieve in their lives as well as teach participants how to access local resources and manage their wellness. As a Peer Support Specialist you will work to instill hope, promote wellness, reduce stigma, enhance life skills, provide education and walk side-by-side with individuals as they build or rebuild meaningful lives in their communities.
JOB SUMMARY:
Peer Support Specialist engages in direct services with clients and indirect work that supports clients in the community and centers as assigned. Direct services include: Connecting with participants, Advocacy, connecting participants to resources, providing and building a sense of community, relationship building, group facilitation, skill building/mentoring/goal setting, and socialization/self-esteem building. indirect work includes: Group planning, development and implementation, team communication and collaboration, supervision/training, ongoing education, working to remove stigma of Mental Health needs.
The Peer Support Specialist will assist participants with:
- Identifying strengths
- Identifying recovery and wellness goals
- Setting objectives
- Identifying barriers
- Determining recovery and wellness interventions based on personal goals
- Meeting their recovery and wellness goals
- Identifying and accessing local and other resources pertaining to their specific needs
The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a recovery/wellness agent by:
- Providing and advocating for effective recovery based services
- Informs participants about community and natural supports and how to utilize these in the recovery process
- Support participants in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy
- Support participants in setting up, leading and sustaining Self Help support groups.
- Communicate with the interdisciplinary team members as required to maintain cohesive support to best serve the individuals
- Keep Coordinator informed of all necessary information regarding customers and program operations
- Provide transportation as needed to and from the Drop In and on Drop In activities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school education or equivalent; lived experience is required.
- Candidates for positions as peer support workers require more than experience with mental health. It will require empathy for individuals served, experience with all basic functions of this job description.
- Must have valid driver's license and personal auto insurance as required by the State of Iowa and be insurable under the company's insurance.
- Satisfactory results on background checks pertaining to criminal and abuse registries.
