Plant Manager job summary:

Plant Manager is responsible for the reliable operation of the manufacturing facility, including daily management and coordination of plant operations, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality(cGMP), labor, environmental regulations, corporate policy, and driving operational profitability. In collaboration with the leadership team, this position oversees all activities related to production, compounding, maintenance, facilities, shipping, and warehouse functions.

Job responsibilities:

  • Partners with the VP of Operations to develop and execute the annual plant operations plan and budgets based on Company goals and objectives
  • Establishes annual goals and KPIs for department and groups in support of company objectives
  • Produces goods in a timely manner to meet demand / schedule
  • Manages resources regularly to avoid “sales cut” or “out of stock” positions
  • Assures compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Complies with CGMP, OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Coordinates with the head of Quality to support the plant’s quality program
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Manufacturing, yield improvement, and 5Y root cause investigations to improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics
  • Manages training, cross training, and developmental plans for departmental personnel
  • Fosters high employee morale and engagement.
  • Plans and manages the seasonal adjustment of manpower
  • Oversees maintenance of the building, equipment, production infrastructure and security
  • Manages departmental spending to within budget
  • Supports the development of new products, ensuring adequate pilot and line tests, and updating procedures to support internal production
  • Participates in long range planning for expansion of production, facilities, and equipment
  • Applies best in class practices, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, to optimize productivity, maximize yields, and reduce costs

Job qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with concentration in Engineering or Applicable Science
  • MBA preferred
  • 15 years’ experience in manufacturing with supervisory and project management responsibility
  • Experience in Pharm or consumer product environment preferred
  • Knowledge of cGMP and experience with integrated enterprise planning systems
  • Experience in Best-in-Class techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Experience and broad understanding of safety systems, rules, policies, and improvement methods
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Experience in budget preparation, spending management, and cost reduction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, project management, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills

Job dimensions:

  • Manages direct staff of Managers / Supervisors and hourly personnel as a key member of the Leadership Team
  • Provides strong contributions to department goals and initiatives
  • Authorized to initiate action to prevent any non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems
