Job Summary/Overview of the Position
This job is a highly technical position responsible, depending on Certification, for the operation, maintenance, repair and regulatory compliance of drinking-water and waste-water treatment facilities. It requires the working knowledge and performance of the operation, maintenance, repair and reporting requirements of all assigned facilities. The incumbent is required to have good attendance and work safely, diligently and responsibly at job duties. May be called out in emergencies, scheduled to work nights, weekends and/or holidays. Essential Job Functions
~ Operation, maintenance, repair and reporting of treatment plants and pumping facilities to
maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

~ Logging instrument readings, scheduling analyses and taking laboratory samples as required
by regulations.

~ Lubricating, adjusting and maintaining pumps, mixers, aerators, measuring equipment and
other electro-mechanical equipment used at assigned facilities.

~ Handle public inquiries and service requests as assigned.
~ Prepare, certify and sign regulatory reports for assigned facilities.

~ Perform all preventative maintenance requirements to assigned equipment.
~ Distribute and replenish process chemicals.

~ Performs operational laboratory tests as required by supervisor.

~ Work safely, diligently and responsibly at completing assigned duties.

~ May be assigned to train or assist with supervision of other employees.

~ Performs other duties not specifically enumerated within the job functions listed above as may
be required at the discretion of the City. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Working knowledge and application of regulations and changes to regulations as they pertain to
assigned facilities.

Working knowledge of regulations pertaining to hazardous chemical transportation and handling.

Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical-mechanical equipment commonly
used in water treatment and pumping facilities. Working knowledge of proper safety practices.

Working knowledge of chemical and biological processes used in water treatment facilities.

Working knowledge in the operation of hand tools, power tools, light vehicles, standard transmission
vehicles, tractors and dump trucks.

Ability to work for extended periods of time in confined areas and in all weather conditions.

Ability to climb ladders, stairs and work on above-ground platforms.

Ability to work alone.

Ability to distinguish colors.

Ability to verbally communicate clearly and instruct others.

Ability to read, comprehend, implement, and complete written and/or oral directions in English.

Ability to write legibly.

Ability to interact effectively with co-workers to carry out job requirements.

Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply numbers.

Ability to perform assigned duties timely and effectively while working carefully and complying with
safety rules.

Ability to follow directions and complete assignments accurately and on time.

Ability to project a good public image and maintain effective customer relations. Interact courteously
with the public, officials, supervisors and co-workers.

Willingness and ability to exercise sound judgement, and perform at a high level of efficiency and

Actively support the Department and the City goals, programs, and objectives.

Ability to read, comprehend, implement, and complete written and/or oral directions in English.

Ability to maintain acceptable attendance record.

Willingness and ability to comply with the City"s regulations and procedures. Physical Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of both hands with majority of fingers in each hand. 20/40 vision (in at
least one eye), and be able to hear, understand and verbally communicate in English at normal
conversational levels in a typical governmental office (corrective devices acceptable).

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Associates Degree from a college acceptable to the City, or specialized water and sewer
training programs.

Licensed Certification or Registration:
Experience: Specific experience in installation and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Back flow device tester certificate.
