POLICE ACADEMY RECRUIT
Salary: $30.85 Hourly During academy attendance
$80,204 Annually Upon successful completion of the academy
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Under direct supervision, the Police Academy Recruit attends a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for performance of Police Officer duties. This position requires a thorough background investigation, voice stress analysis examination, psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment. This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer series. Incumbents in this classification receive training in a controlled classroom environment. Advancement to the sworn Police Officer level is based on meeting minimum qualification standards, satisfactory performance in the academy and availability of police officer positions within the City.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will possess:
The Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade or higher with coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field.
Previous experience is not required but experience in a law enforcement environment is highly desirable.
Must be 21 years of age at of the date of hire.
Must be a United States citizen or meet citizenship requirements.
Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions.
Must be lawfully able to possess a firearm.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Attend and complete a basic POST certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for performance of Police Officer duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to:
Learn various CA laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, and first aid.
Study, read, interpret, and apply police concepts.
Analyze various situations and problems and take appropriate action.
Effectively perform work in stressful situations.
Undergo strenuous physical conditioning.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience: Not required but experience in law enforcement environment is desirable.
Special Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age as of the date of hire.
Must be a United States citizen or meet citizenship requirements.
Must be of good moral character with no felony convictions.
Must be lawfully able to possess a firearm.
Licenses/Certifications: The ability to convey oneself to and from geographical locations frequently and timely, or possession of a valid CA driver's license.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO A STANDARD POLICE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION INCLUDING FINGERPRINTING, POLYGRAPH EXAM, PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, AND COMPLETE PHYSICAL EXAM WITH DRUG SCREENING.
