Job Description:

Under general supervision, provides prehospital/ preoperative assessment services to patients. Manages the preoperative pathway for patients by performing a variety of duties such as screening of patient to determine patient need for additional consultation (e.g., social work, anesthesia, finance); completion of prehospital/preoperative preparations (i.e., medications, treatment); and providing preoperative education.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient charts and medical records.
  • Conducts assessment interviews.
  • Determines patient need for additional prehospital/preoperative consultations such as anesthesia, social work, insurance/finance and physical/occupational therapy.
  • Provides preoperative instruction to patient and family members.
  • Communicates and coordinates with appropriate physicians, physician offices and hospital personnel to ensure efficient and effective services to patients.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Preferred Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mostly sedentary work
