This is specialized responsible professional probation work managing a caseload of adult misdemeanor offenders. The employee reports to the Probation Director. May be required to supervise subordinate office staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manages a caseload of misdemeanor offenders; interviewing, counseling, referral, and supervising of clients. Monitors client compliance with probation obligations. Prepares and maintains required documentation for case files in accordance with established procedures. Documents all counseling sessions and clients’ progress. Develops the client’s personal profile to include goals for participation in the required program. Prepares and provides recommendations, affidavits, summons, and warrants as needed for sentencing and violation of probation proceedings. Testifies or represents the Division at criminal and traffic arraignments, docket sounding, and plea dispositions. Serves as liaison with all involved parties (State Attorney, Public Defender, law enforcement officers, private counsel, victims, treatment agencies, etc.) Assists with supervision and information verification from agencies of other jurisdictions. Conduct pre-sentence and post-sentence investigations and interviews. May be called upon to provide fieldwork, crisis intervention, and counseling as the need arises.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of applicable Florida Statutes, Administrative Orders Misdemeanor Class
Reference List, and other rules, regulations procedures, and statutes pertaining to probation; knowledge of modern probation case management, record keeping, interview, and investigative techniques.
Requires the ability to manage offenders with firmness and objectivity; organize and supervise the work of others; communicate clearly, orally and in writing; establish an effective working relationship with judges, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and social service agency personnel; exercise independent judgment; and prepares detailed court-ordered investigative reports. Requires demonstrated human relations skills in problem-solving with victims, family members, and other crime- affected individuals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Counseling or Psychology, or a related field and 2 years experience in the related field. Comparable training and experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis. Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s
License with a favorable driving record.
