The Program Director for the Kenan Institute for Ethics provides support and quality control for all public-facing programs and events. These programs comprise diverse educational, engagement, and research activities. The position reports to the associate director/chief of staff for the Institute and works closely with faculty leads, other staff directors, and four program coordinators.
Work Performed
Program Management 70%
- Supervise and coordinate all activities and operations for public-facing programs across the entire KIE portfolio to ensure efficient processes and delivery of high quality, consistent programs and events.
- Coordinate the work of program coordinators and, as needed, associated faculty and staff.
- Coordinate, plan, and implement general programs and events, such as the annual open house BBQ, graduation, ad hoc lectures, etc.; assign new or ad hoc events and initiatives to program coordinators as capacity allows, or absorb as part of the program director portfolio as needed.
- Develop and implement systematic and standardized approaches to program and event management, including:
- Compliance with all Duke regulations, standards, and policies.
- Adherence to KIE aesthetic and event management guide.
- Reflection of the program content and themes into design elements and implementation plan.
- Consistency of program start up, management, and close out.
- Maintaining expenses within allocated budgets and timely payments.
- After-action reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
Staff training and development 20%
- Manage the hiring and onboarding process for new program coordinators and other support staff.
- Train program staff in systems and procedures that support efficient delivery of high-quality programs; ensure on-going staff development for program coordinators.
- Organize and maintain records required for reference and efficient operation, including aesthetic and event guide, student participation, etc.
Support to the Director 10%
- Provide logistical, programmatic, and development support for the director, including liaising with staff, faculty, and others to develop collaborations around the university and to identify and develop proposals for new projects.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires the ability to plan and administer programs and direct OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. program activities within a specific functional area, generally acquired through four years of related experience.
