The primary responsibility of the Project Engineer is to support the project staff during the preconstruction and construction stages of the project. They will work closely with the Project Manager and/or Assistant Project Manager to manage, supervise, coordinate, and ensure the successful completion of the project to meet time and cost objectives related to contracting, scheduling, estimating, bidding, and contract administration functions.
Responsibilities:
Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluate less complex subcontractor bids, assist in pricing alternates, and initiate value-engineering alternatives.
Assist the Project Manager in preparing purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
Manage the document control process by maintaining the drawing files and lists, including addenda, ASI’s, CCD’s, RFI’s, and other project document revisions.
Review shop drawings, samples, catalog data, and coordinate with other trades to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, installation procedures, and site considerations.
Prepare, expedite, and monitor logs for tracking shop drawings, contract documents, submittals, request for information, change orders, and other necessary items for a successful project.
Monitor job progress with the Project Manager and Superintendent for schedule updates.
Prepare project schedules with the assistance of the Project Manager and Superintendent and maintain them on a weekly/monthly basis.
Assist in the management of the punch list process.
Obtain all closeout materials from subcontractors and suppliers, including guarantees and warranties, as-builts, Operations and Maintenance Manuals, and coordinate Owner Training of Equipment.
Assist with preparing the job start-up and closeout checklists.
Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, contracts with the Owner, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project-related documents, and maintain a complete and accurate set of as-builts.
Actively participate in internal team(s) that focus on continuous improvement of the business.
Qualifications:
BS in Construction Management or Civil Engineering or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience.
Two years of experience as a Project Engineer or a related position preferred, but new grads will be considered.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Understanding of the submittal process.
Understanding of project schedule logic.
Understanding of construction terminology, materials, and systems.
Basic knowledge of construction means and methods.
Interpersonal skills, computer skills, and the ability to communicate both written and orally.
Knowledge of MS Office, including scheduling, spreadsheet, and database applications.
