POSITION SUMMARY
Provides clinical leadership and consultation to inpatient staff, persons served, and families. Provides direct services to persons served, community consultation and assessment of assigned persons. Provides education and support to persons served and their families. Coordinates service needs and collaborates with other services and agencies as necessary and appropriate. Completes in vivo screenings and assessments of persons served as needed and recommended by the interdisciplinary team. The Staff Psychologist shall also be responsible for any psychological testing required for specific persons served. In addition, the Staff Psychologist shall assume the Licensed Independent Practitioner role and shall function as a member of the facility medical/clinical staff and a credentialed provider in the program.
THE PROGRAM
In partnership with DSH and CONREP, the Telecare San Diego FACT program serves 60 justice-involved adult members with mental health issues in an effort to help members stay in community and avoid locked settings. With a “whatever it takes” approach, our multidisciplinary team will provide case management and treatment services with a focus on criminogenic, mental health, and substance use risks and needs. Our program uses a community-based model where we connect members to the proper resources, including safe housing, to help them achieve their wellness goals. We will also offer psycho-educational, peer/family support, and skills building groups as well as medication management services. All services are recovery-focused, strengths-based, and anchored in recovery principles. A diverse clinical team will provide individualized assessment and work with members every step of the way to support their goals in life.

QUALIFICATIONS*
Required:

  • PH.D.in clinical psychology or a related field and licensed as a Psychologist in California
  • Two (2) years of direct clinical service
  • Experience providing direct mental health clinical service to adults and adolescent (13-17 years old)
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, a thorough understanding of client rights, an understanding of the systems of care for adults and adolescents, and strong assessment skills
  • Sensitivity to multi-cultural populations and issues is required.
  • A valid driver’s license, DMV clearance and proof of insurance are required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. If the position requires driving, valid driver license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual, or local requirements may apply.

  • Experience in an inpatient facility with adults and adolescents
  • Experience in providing intensive case management, using psychiatric rehabilitation concepts is highly desirable

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

  • Demonstrate the Telecare mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders
  • Serves as role model in demonstrating Telecare’s purpose and values in actions with line staff.
  • Provides safe, effective, and efficient implementation of direct care in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care
  • Administers, interprets, and supervises the administration of psychological and neuropsychological testing as required
  • Write psychological reports as required
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with persons served
  • Assures complete and accurate records, and confidentiality of persons served
  • Develops and maintains an awareness of community resources and makes appropriate community referrals and discharge plans
  • Assures that persons served know and understand their legal status and rights
  • Provides consultation/interpretation to staff, persons served and their families regarding issues arising from the treatment plans
  • Participates as a full team member and provides input via presence in the therapeutic milieu, reporting observations, and in forming clinical questions for follow up and discharge planning
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of multidisciplinary treatment plans for persons served
  • Develops training materials and coordinates training of staff.
  • Observes, reports, and documents the social and psychiatric behavior of the persons served in the milieu.
  • Educates and coaches staff on identifying clinical indicators of potential psychological and neuropsychological deficits.
  • Completes psychological and neuropsychological in vivo screenings on clients as designated by the Medical Director.
  • Participates in Independent Clinical Reviews for persons served.
  • Encourages persons served to utilize community-based resources.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Telecare's customers including persons served, families and governmental agencies in all interactions and conduct.
  • Acts in a professional manner, always demonstrating respect and understanding of the community and neighborhood when representing Telecare in the community.
  • If employed at Inpatient program, must assist with restraint of members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
  • If employed at Outpatient program, must evade members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training

PHYSICAL DEMANDS*
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb and lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds or less as well as to frequently walk, stand, twist, reach and do simple and power grasping. The position requires manual deviation, repetition and dexterity and to occasionally drive and be exposed to uneven walking ground as well as Hazardous Exposure (Blood Borne Pathogens, Hospital Waste, Chemical & Infectious). Visual requirements include computers and books exposure.
