New River Health District seeks a Public Health Nurse to join our wonderful team of nursing staff. This is a multi-hire position looking to have 2 positions filled. This posting is open until filled, however, the first review of applications will be after November 27th.

The Montgomery County Health Department is currently seeking a Public Health Nurse to join our dedicated team of Public Health Nursing Professionals to provide quality nursing care to our patients in clinics, homes, schools and other areas of the community. This Public Health Nurse will primarily help with clinical services with programs such as reproductive health, STI and immunizations. In addition, this Public Health Nurse will participate in emergency preparedness, field operations, and epidemiology as they relate to communicable disease, and population health education and events. Specific responsibilities include: performing nursing assessments, conducting lab tests, and taking measurements.

Minimum Qualifications
- Current, unexpired Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license and/or Compact Designation (Multi-State Privileges)
- Current CPR and/or BLS certification
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form
- Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, keyboarding and email
- Experience performing standard nursing procedures including venipuncture, immunizations, and assessments
- Ability to perform nursing assessment, exercise independent nursing judgment, develop nursing plan of care, and organize time
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, analyze and problem solve, organize work and establish priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public health nursing
- Experience working with diverse cultures
- BSN
Special Requirements
May require occasional overnight travel or extended work hours to meet agency needs.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check and E-Verify. Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions. Completion of Statement of Economic Interests will be required upon employment.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.
