Reports To: Corporate Quality Director

Manages: n/a - (QC lab technicians will report to Quality Manger when positions are needed)

Job Overview:

An enthusiastic, hard-working, servant leader. Plays a key role in the development of the organization toward high quality standards and promotes and cultivates an organizational culture that supports and fosters quality excellence. Responsible for the Quality Management System and product quality of the North Carolina graphite plant including development, implementation, communication, and distribution of quality practices, standards, methodologies, and metrics.

This is a salary position with responsibility of coverage to support multi-shift operations as needed; additional hours may be required to support customers, plant operations, quality initiatives and completion of assigned projects. Travel to customers and other Asbury plant locations will be required.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate process improvements and developing a mindset for excellence within plant operations.
  • Performing quality lab testing on all incoming materials and finished products.
  • Daily operation of the quality lab including testing and general maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Create and approve certificates of analysis for all material shipped.
  • Participate in Employee Performance Development process by supporting company and personal goals, feedback, open communication and developing a cohesive high performing work team.
  • Assure that all purchased material maintains traceability and is sampled and tested according to requirements verifying the Quality of the material and communicating results.
  • Review daily production results to ensure product quality is being met. Assure all material produced is sampled and tested as required. Approve all material to be shipped reconciling any discrepancies.
  • Assure nonconforming material is identified and properly labeled, tracked and analyzed for root cause.
  • Maintain an ISO9001 Quality Management System and perform training, record retention and continuous improvement to ensure effectiveness.
  • Perform verification testing as scheduled on all testing equipment and maintain a verification database.
  • Conducting Management reviews, reporting and analysis of monthly/quarterly performance.
  • Handle product specification deviation requests as needed.
  • Perform customer purchase order specification review.
  • Handle Customer issues as they arise by initiating and completing the Corrective Action process.
  • Oversee and ensure timely processing of customer sample requests.
  • Enter new grades, update specifications and typical product data.
  • Creating and updating process flow diagrams, FMEA’s, PPAP’s
  • Support new process developments and Management of Change
  • Travel to support QMS system training, internal audits, customer site visits and supplier audits.

Preferred Experience/skills:

  • Prior experience in a production / manufacturing quality management role
  • Experience in the use of QC laboratory equipment for testing: particle sizing, pH, sulfur, moisture, high-temperature furnace testing
  • ASQ Quality Certification, or equivalent
  • Quality Engineering focus on problem solving
  • Ability to lead and promote excellence
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Visio
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Minitab SPC
  • Knowledge and practical use of a Laboratory Information Management System

Working conditions

  • Daily Black graphite powder exposure (washes clean with mild soap),
  • Must wear appropriate PPE including steel toed shoes, dust masks, hard-hat and safety glasses as required

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Must use proper tools as required by the task

KEY RESULTS AREA (KRA)

  • Continuous improvement project identification and completion to project schedule. Defect reduction and process improvement.
  • Timely completion and analysis of monthly dashboard
  • Prompt customer complaint response – as per goals established
  • QC Lab testing accuracy and proficiency to meet production demands
