Position is variable shifts and days. Comes with extra pay for experience, 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum High school graduate and after 1985, graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist Program.
Licensure/Certifications: License from IEMA. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). After 1985, requires registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), with RT(R) credentials.
Training: 90 days (an additional 60 days for a specialty area).
Experience: Registry eligible new graduate with preferably, at least one year experience. Licensed prior to 1985 with no more than 2 months out of the field. Preferred CT experience.
Job Knowledge: Must be knowledgeable about radiographic procedures and the techniques to perform them. Must be able to operate a variety of equipment. Must be able to evaluate developmental stages and adapt patient care techniques to, effectively accommodate all stages of development, including neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the radiologist, performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment. After proper training, may perform specialized exams such as ultrasound, mammography, computed tomography or MRI.
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Operates radiologic equipment to obtain images used by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Selects appropriate imaging techniques, operates console and peripheral hardware, and enters and monitors patient data.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within radiology.
- Delivers quality exams on a consistent basis.
- Answers the telephone in a professional manner and is courteous to callers.
- Has a working knowledge of the established radiographic procedures and follows them in producing radiographs.
- Transports patients to and from the DI department as requested.
- Makes radiographic copies as requested following P&P.
- Utilizes EMR/PACS system for radiology routines, scheduling and billing. Accurately schedules patients for specific exams. Scans reports and histories into PACS as needed. Assists referring physician in the location and review of radiologic files and reports, located within the PACS system.
- Implements the policies and procedures of Memorial Hospital and department.
- Complies with all Service Excellence, Quality, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Memorial Hospital emergency codes.
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational opportunities

Must be able to communicate and relate well with people of various ages and social backgrounds. Must have a high level of communication skills with patients, physicians, fellow employees and staff, both face to face and on the phone.
Judgement: Must be able to adapt standard radiographic procedures to fit special circumstances. Must be able to determine if quality meets the required standard, and if not how to correct the problem.
Versatility: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment.
Confidentiality: Must be able to maintain patient confidentiality. Must be willing to sign and adhere to confidentiality statement.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Responsibility for error, losses, and process: Responsible for carrying out physician’s orders. Responsible for safe operation of equipment. Responsible for utilizing the EMR system for radiology routines, scheduling, and other areas as needed.
Responsibility for safety: Must operate equipment according to established state and federal guidelines. Must follow safe lifting procedures, utilizing good body mechanics. Provides a safe environment for patients. Follows hospital guidelines for infection control, fire and disaster plans.
Responsibility for supervision of others: Assists in training of new employees in policies and procedures of department.
Physical demands:
- Extensive reaching, twisting, bending, standing and walking required, continuously >67%.
- Carrying, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance, frequently up to 66% of time.
- Good vision and hearing for patient care assessments, continuously >67% of time.
- Sitting, occasionally up to 33% of time.
- Ability to perform CPR, rarely <5% but able to perform 100% of time.
- Typing for clerical work, occasionally up to 33% of time.
