SUMMARY

Receives and inventories food service supplies according to established procedures. Ensures deliveries are correct and supplies and food items are dated and stored properly. Responds to inquiries as to availability of supplies, expected delivery dates, and the like.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Checks deliveries from vendors or hospital warehouse by comparing invoices against purchase orders and counting received goods; reports any discrepancy or damaged goods to supervisor.

• Stores departmental supplies, rotates stock, and ensures all supplies and food items are dated and stored in appropriate area in accordance with established procedures in order to prevent spoilage.

• Inventories and totals counts of supplies stored according to schedule or as directed.

• Operates health center vehicles to transport perishable and non-perishable food supplies to the satellite units of the campus.

• Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, off solutions, and participates in their resolution.

• Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

• Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMHS.

• Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

• Requisitions supplies from the hospital warehouse in order to maintain an adequate stock level according to established procedure.

• Answers the telephone and responds to routine inquiries, relays messages as necessary, and maintains good customer relations.

• Assumes responsibility for processing orders in the absence of the supervisor.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three months on the job training or previous experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Interpersonal skills and phone manners necessary to communicate with supervisor and various hospital personnel when exchanging factual information.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when examining deliveries, storing, rotating, and dating supplies.
