JOB TITLE: Recreation Assistant DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Recreation
Part-time
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Assist with the planning, implementation, instruction and administrative support of the recreation programs and special events.
REPORTS TO: Recreation Director
DESCRIPTION
- Coordinate with full time recreation staff to plan and facilitate a wide range of community-based recreation programs, special events, special projects and Farmer's Market.
- Assist with the administration, registration, and data management of program services offered. (Including set-up and breakdown of community rooms for programming)
- Assist with monitoring rental activities
- Assist, coordinate and supervise volunteers involved in programs.
- Assists in maintaining program records and reports.
- Prepare written communications and verbally communicate with coaches, parents, participants, and volunteers
- Assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and special events, including social media.
- Participate in staff meetings and work cooperatively with other staff and promote teamwork.
- Assist in the ordering of program materials and supplies and maintain an inventory of athletic and program supplies
- May be asked to perform other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Reasonable knowledge of computers and software applications, Facebook and other social media
- Initiative and resourcefulness in problem resolution.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and other employees.
- Ability to lift, push, pull and move equipment of a reasonable weight.
- Must be able to work independently while utilizing excellent time management and prioritization of tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proper telephone etiquette
- Ability to multitask
- Model professionalism and civic leadership
- Ability to positively adhere to the City of Oak Park's policies and procedures
- Must be physically able to perform work duties; ability to lift boxes, bags, tables, chairs, and equipment of at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Graduation from High School or equivalent certification.
- Background/experience/college classes in recreation, sports management, leisure studies, education or related field.
- Valid Michigan Driver's License
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS - Must have the ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays (Fourth of July).
SALARY RANGE - This is a part-time position with an hourly minimum rate of $18.00
