Job Description
Primary tasks include creation and assistance with promotional content such as videos, publications, flyers, trifolds, invitations, programs, specialty guides, social media posts, announcements, and notifications about events, facilities, historical sites, parks, amenities and other related content.

Initiates and implements ideas for marketing concepts for written, digital and visual material in a team setting. Creates multimedia content, e-letters, campaigns, department publications, to include preparation and dissemination of monthly department report and project updates. Uploads reports using digital publication software and other media tools. Works closely with department staff to ensure timely reporting to meet monthly and other publication deadlines. Creates weekly video segment of upcoming programs and events. Provides digital asset management and captures new, quality photos and videos. Maintains files, records and digital assets.
Monitors, creates and schedules content for department’s Facebook and Instagram pages, provides responses and monitors and redirects other related parks and facilities pages to department page. Assists with promotional projects such as social media campaigns and contests. Provides insights, identifies trends, and analyzes performance metrics for optimal user engagement and reach. Works closely with department staff to identify promotional needs.
Assists with marketing at department and cosponsored special events and provides support at department marketing table. Creates content for video, takes photos, and creates social media posts concurrently while working at events and/or offsite. Engages with the public and event/program participants for marketing promotions. May purchase and provide food pick up, cleanup, event set up and breakdown. Prepares marketing boxes for events. Ensures adequate and up-to-date material is available, follows up with staff for most current information. May provide assistance at other facility locations during events. Coordinates department Mascot scheduling, staff accompaniment, and maintains related supplies.

Procures marketing material and maintains marketing-related supplies.
As part of the department content provider team, may assist with updates to the department’s section of the city’s website and the online event calendar. Prepares and maintains content for electronic bulletin boards.
Ensures all department information is visually appealing, engaging, accurate, error free and professional in appearance. Ensures all material adheres to the city and department guidelines for social media and city and department branding guidelines. Advises staff on proper techniques and formatting.

Assists with customer service-related initiatives and frequently communicates with the public, volunteers, community groups and coworkers. Must possess good interpersonal skills to work with varied and diverse groups. Works with department staff to compile information and compose correspondence in response to customer inquiries. Gauges citizen and visitor interest, makes recommendations for improvements in processes to better meet those needs. Works with the front desk team in promotion of department’s programs, events, facilities, parks and services.
Realizes importance of exceptional customer service in performance of duties and adheres to all aspects of the City’s customer service standards. Follows up and ensures follow-through on citizen requests.

Attention to detail in all aspects of position. Ability to adapt to shift in assignments and priorities. Assists with special projects as needed and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, business administration, recreation/sports management, physical education, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
  • Requires CPR and First Aid certification within the first year of employment.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal skills and ease in front of the camera. Excellent data-gathering and presentation skills in Excel for creating graphs and charts.
  • Minimum of 1 year of full-time equivalent experience. Experience to include creation of promotional material and multimedia content; experience monitoring various business social media platforms. Marketing and/or web design, and creative data visualization. Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience in public engagement optimization to department webpage and social media sites by researching social media trends and best emerging practices.
  • Experience with web-based systems, various social media platforms, desktop publishing software, graphic design, and video marketing. Interest and experience in dealing with the public and working with diverse groups of people.
  • Experience and ability to display initiative and creativity in development of promoting an organization or company.
