EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY
:
Works with the Project Coordinator to coordinate and manage the Refugee/Asylee support program. Provides cultural sensitivity and cultural awareness training for parents, staff, and community. Aids Refugee/Asylee parents and students with basic communication between schools, families, district staff, and resettlement agencies to improve the educational success of children.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with resettlement agencies to identify and provide assistance to Refugee/Asylee students and families assigned to the District.
2. Supports all newly-arrived PK-12 students and campuses to address basic educational skills and social emotional learning (SEL) needs of refugees and asylees (i.e., registration, tracking, parent/teacher meetings, campus events, district-wide events, service-brokering & language access).
3. Manages all programmatic and reporting requirements for Refugee School Impact Federal Grant (RSI). This includes tracking and reporting all measurable documentation on an ongoing basis, serving as the primary liaison for local resettlement agencies (Catholic Charities, RAICES, and Refugee Service of Texas). Keeps required agency and department reporting metrics and documentation.
4. Attends quarterly meetings to keep abreast of current best practices in resettlement.
5. Facilitates cross-boundary relationships between school sites and district departments to support the integration, effectiveness, and efficiency of academic and learning supports, services and resources to school sites and community partners.
6. Provides an exceptional customer experience for all NEISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.
7. Reviews and maintains accurate and up-to-date student information, including intake forms, registration documents, and other required paperwork.
8. Participates in trainings & webinars to better equip oneself to better serve clients.
9. Attends continuing education opportunities that will increase knowledge of this position.
10. Demonstrates sensitivity to service the population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
11. Adheres to safety training and protocols daily, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
12. Assists in communication for the newcomers, including Emergent Bilingual (EB) Summer School activities to ensure appropriate services.
13. Promotes the Bilingual/ESL program to students, faculty, staff, parents, community members and other interested parties.
14. Provides additional sheltered instruction and small group tutoring support to newcomers.
15. Maintains confidentiality of information.
16. Reports to work every day.
17. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual- ability to articulate in English and one of the following: Pashto, Dari, Swahili, Arabic, Ukrainian
- Ability to interpret and apply policy, procedures, and data
- Strong communication (written and verbal), public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in using personal computer, various software, email, and internet
- Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Reliable transportation
- Valid Texas Driver's license with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
