The Regional Clinical Manager (RN) is responsible for 24-hour operation of assigned patient care unit(s). This includes the assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of patient care and nursing services for the assigned area of responsibility. Serves as a clinical resource and role model for unit staff. Incorporates the needs and behaviors of patient's age group in planning and providing care.

Leadership

  • Leads by example in the management of stressful situations and conflict resolution.
  • Solicits staff feedback, evaluates options and advocates appropriately for staff needs.
  • Facilitates effective communication between nursing and physician colleagues.
  • Creates a cooperative, collaborative working relationship with other departments.

Administrative Responsibilities and Department Operations

  • Actively participates in committee meetings as assigned by the service line director.
  • Manages time, workload and delegates effectively.
  • Collaborates with the director in establishing unit goals to support hospital objectives and priorities.
  • Manages payroll, administrative duties, clerical tasks and staffing and scheduling.

Performance Improvement

  • Provides input to the director in determining priorities for unit-based performance improvement initiatives.
  • Guides staff in implementing and evaluating unit-based performance improvement activities.
  • Coaches, mentors, and guides staff to incorporate performance improvement initiatives into practice, and holds staff accountable for compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Effectively communicates the results of the patient satisfaction measures to unit-based staff.

Clinical Focus

  • Serves as a resource and provides direction and guidance with clinical decision making and problem solving for staff providing patient care.
  • Actively participates in resolving patient care problems ensuring timely response to customer feedback.
  • Conducts patient care rounds on a regular planned basis to evaluate the quality of care, outcomes and staff competency.
  • Makes recommendations to the nursing director for the standardization of equipment and supplies for patient care.

Staff Education and Development

  • Facilitates orientation of new staff by participating directly in formal meetings and informal coaching sessions with orientee/preceptor.
  • Identifies, develops and supports the preceptors and ensures on-going skill development, effectiveness and competence.
  • Coaches, mentors, and guides staff to achieve professional and developmental goals.
  • Develops staff in customer satisfaction and service recovery skills.

Department Finance

  • Provides supportive data and participates in the development of the annual cost center salary and non-salary budget.
  • Collaborates with the director to provide rationale for budget variances.
  • Matches available resources with the demands of patient care in a cost effective manner.

Human Resource Management and Retention

  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of new employees.
  • Holds staff accountable by adhering to hospital policies and standards for hiring, performance expectations, discipline and termination.
  • Collaborates with the director to identify individual staff plans for personal career goals, including but not exclusive to clinical ladders.
  • Addresses staff concerns and potential retention problems.
  • Provides initial screening in the resignation recovery process.

Qualifications

PERFORMS OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES AS REQUIRED.

JOB DEMANDS

  • Occasionally lifts and moves patients.
  • Moves stretchers and equipment.
  • Spends prolonged periods of time walking and/or standing.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • RN with current Connecticut license.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3-5 years experience in related clinical area.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.
