SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist evaluates, plans and implements physical therapy/gross motor programs for students within the education/community setting. The Physical Therapist works with and instructs classroom staff, related services staff and parents in the implementation of physical therapy/gross motor programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to examine how his/her/their position (directly or indirectly) impacts educational inequities in student achievement outcomes.
- Engages in reflection and ongoing learning and development on critical concepts and terms identified in the Washtenaw ISD Educational Equity Policy including concepts such as cultural proficiency, racial equity, and systemic and structural inequities
- Participates with the school team to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Participates in Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings, completes evaluations and provides documentation.
- Participates in relevant meetings or appointments outside of the school setting when related to individual student needs (i.e., hospital clinics, group home settings or in home trainings).
- Works as a liaison between staff, parents, students and medical staff as it relates to orthopedic/physical medicine management.
- Maintains student service, administrative and other departmental records in accordance with the district, state and federal policies.
- Develops and implements intervention strategies.
- Instructs classroom staff and parents on implementation of physical therapy programming related to IEP goals.
- Develops physical management plan for daily routines and trains staff in its safe implementation.
- Evaluates and report on student progress.
- Communicates and consults with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community and other professionals.
- Collaborates with community based therapists and other healthcare providers for effective coordination of service.
- Assists with planning and the implementation of clinics using professional consultants.
- Collects data on student’s response to treatment.
- Maintains accurate records regarding service delivery.
- Assesses need and recommends assistive technology necessary for function at school toward independence.
- Plans for transition from school to community, preparing student to function as independent as possible within the community.
- Provides consultation regarding emergency evacuation of students with disabilities.
- Participates with improving school accessibility and planning environmental modifications.
- Coordinates with special education administration on anticipated equipment needs.
- Maintains and inventories equipment, materials and supplies.
- Contributes to planning means of safe transportation for students with disabilities.
- Performs billing functions for Medicaid reimbursement.
- Participates in building and district level staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development/special programs, school improvement teams and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
- Adheres to District policies and procedures as well as professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Keeps a safe and hazard free work environments.
- Exhibits emotional stability, exercises good judgment and makes decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines, with minimum supervision.
- Works cooperatively and communicates with District and constituent district staff, students and parents/guardians.
- Maintains accurate attendance records and appropriate reports.
- Supports WISD vision and mission to enhance achievement for all students.
- Supports a team-based approach to problem solving.
- Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s Degree. Ph.D. desired.
- Possesses the skills and desire to work in a collaborative team with others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of physical therapy principles, theory, methods and evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective practice, clinical decision-making outcomes-based intervention and their proper application in the educational environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of areas of practice specific to pediatrics, including child development and specific diagnoses.
- Demonstrated knowledge of administrative management practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current legal mandates, including federal and state law, compliance issues, confidentiality requirements, funding procedures and requirements.
- Demonstrated ability in planning, implementing administering and coordinating a physical therapy program, from eligibility determination to exit.
- Demonstrated ability to creatively develop and implement adaptive physical education techniques to the needs and interests of students.
- Demonstrated experience in selecting and providing a wide range of intervention strategies and monitoring their effectiveness.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- If required, ability to work in a virtual online instructional setting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Must possess a valid license as a Physical Therapist.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of educators, parents, students and the general public.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to integrate technology into the everyday workflow is necessary.
- Ability to utilize District technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the District.
- Ability to use computer technology for research, data management, communications, and other instruction.
- Ability to use a personal computer (PC) or MAC in a networked environment to utilize the Internet and other electronic communication mechanisms.
- Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software) is required.

This position is subject to terms, conditions, and calendar of the Master Agreement between the District and Unit II AFT Local 3760. Starting salary ranging (dependent upon experience) from $45,348 - $95,449
