Position Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness, perform a variety of specialized activities involved in the research, collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of data related to institutional planning, effectiveness, accreditation, student success, and other areas required by outside organizations and used by staff, faculty and administrators for projects and decision-making; utilize a computer to create, design and produce various ad-hoc and standardized reports.
Essential Functions
- Perform a variety of specialized activities involved in the collection, extraction, analysis, interpretation and reporting of data related to institutional planning, effectiveness, accreditation, student success, placement tests and other areas required by outside organizations and used by staff, faculty and administrators for projects and decision-making; verify and assure integrity of data, research and reports. Support accreditation, strategic plan research, and data needs.
- Extract, process and update a variety of data and information in assigned computer systems; create queries, extract and manipulate information, generate links to data and produce various computerized reports for use in projects, studies and analysis; create, design and write ad-hoc computer scripts and queries in the production of a variety of reports requested by staff, faculty and administrators. Provide training and data coaching for research results and interactive dashboards developed by PRIE.
- Create, design and produce a variety of specialized research to provide evidence for institutional effectiveness and performance improvement projects, analyses and activities; develop and generate tables, graphs and interactive visualizations to enhance data presentation and reporting; prepare, develop and modify a variety of special forms and templates.
- Conduct specialized research, and compile, assemble, evaluate and prepare a variety of educational data for use in reports and institutional planning activities; assist in monitoring and analyzing College programs for educational effectiveness; provide input concerning the development and implementation of policies and programs to enhance educational effectiveness.
- Participate in a variety of surveys and related research and data analysis activities; review, analyze, arrange and visualize data according to project, survey and study specifications, needs, requests and requirements; review a variety of data and reports to assure accuracy and completeness; analyze and compare a variety of data for use in reports and visualization tools.
- Produce and maintain a variety of highly specialized dashboards related to aggregated enrollment, enrollment history, wait lists, program review, student demographics, student enrollment and various other assigned areas related to institutional effectiveness and performance improvement; interpret findings and analyze data, and provide related recommendations concerning College practices and procedures.
- Receive and evaluate requests for data, statistical analysis, research projects and studies; prepare requests for processing; arrange and maintain project schedules and time lines; design strategies to complete assignments; develop and implement research activities and methods of statistical data collection, analysis and presentation for assigned projects.
- Provide data and research support for Career Education/Strong Workforce planning, projects, internal and external reporting, including tracking and reporting regional labor market data.
- Provide support for College planning and accreditation processes.
- Serve as a resource on relevant Participatory Governance and ad-hoc committees within the College, including the Educational Planning Committee.
- Coordinate and prepare specialized reports required by the Chancellor's Office as assigned; input and verify uploaded data concerning institutional characteristics, degrees and certificates awarded, and Human Resources and Finance data; work with the Information Technology department on data required by the Chancellor's Office.
- Compare data and identify errors and discrepancies; make corrections, additions and modifications as needed.
- Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, fax machine, scanner, computer and a variety of specialized software.
- Communicate with personnel and various outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
- Prepare, distribute and respond to a variety of correspondence related to assigned projects, studies and activities.

Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
- Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field; and
- Two years' experience involving statistical research and analysis, including work with computer databases and software application; and
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, abilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.
- An understanding of and previous experience analyzing labor market and occupational trends including labor market supply and demand analysis.
- Previous experience working with faculty and administrators in a community college setting
- Knowledge of and experience providing data support to career and technical education programs.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Principles, practices, procedures and techniques involved in the research, collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of statistical data.
- Data extraction methods through programming and queries used in producing ad-hoc reports.

- Assist faculty, staff and administrators in interpreting and using data and research products produced by PRIE for planning and decision making ("data coaching").
- Utilize a computer to create, design and produce various ad-hoc and standardized reports and visualizations.
- Create, design and write ad-hoc computer programs and queries in the production of a variety of reports requested by staff, faculty and administrators.
- Participate in a variety of surveys and related research and data analysis activities
- Assemble, organize and prepare data for records, reports, and interactive visualizations using Excel, R, STATA, Tableau, and/or similar programs.
- Verify and assure integrity and accuracy of data and reports.
- Type or input data at an acceptable rate of speed.
- Interpret data findings, prepare narrative reports, and provide related recommendations.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Work independently with little direction.

Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
- In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States;
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance;
- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: CSEA 124
Starting Salary Range: $36.58 to $40.33 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

CLASSIFICATION
Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA) Chapter 196 and are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
