Position includes company vehicle, phone and computer.
WORK HOURS
Normal work schedule is 7:00 am to 4:30 pm with a 1 hour lunch break.
Occasionally, during our busy season, additional hours may be required to meet our business needs and job requirements. Must be able to attend occasional after-hours events.
Must be available after hours to assist with emergency situations.
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for implementation and oversight of the Safety culture. Performs the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Maintains and promotes company brand guidelines and core values at all times.
· Responsible for efficient communication, harmonious interaction and support of co-workers and management team members.
· Reinforces safety program standards through regular, in-person job site visits. Complete detailed job site safety audits
· Selects personal protective equipment (PPE) and related safety inventory. Solicits feedback from the employees on the PPE
· Conducts trend analysis and risk assessments on properties and in the field.
· Responds to emergency incidents as needed and defined in the emergency response procedures.
· Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational risk, increase safety awareness and improve safe work practices on and off site.
· Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal regulators.
· Develop, reviews and sends reports to the management and executive teams on a routine basis. Including key performance indicators. IE: workers comp, Samsara, costs of accidents, etc.
· Develop and implement short and long-term strategic safety plans to achieve desired safety related goals and objectives.
· Works closely with the training manager, managers and supervisors to help design and develop safety training programs.
· Oversees, coordinates and plans the Companies annual Safety Day with select team members.
· Trains new hires on the Hazcom training according to OSHA regulations. Conducts a yearly training on Hazcom to all employees on safety day or online course.
· Develops education materials for employees and customers.
· Develops and maintains safety calendar.
· Consistently reinforces safety messages by conducting behavioral observations, safety briefings, department meetings, and facility safety walk-throughs.Conducts routine inspections and observations of facilities and helps others conduct inspections. Recommends corrections or precautions to ensure compliance with established regulations.
· Leads and coordinates the safety committee. Sends out voting survey to safety committee members and complies results. When results are tallied the safety manager will type a memo that is sent to the employee and HR to file in the employee file. The safety manger will sit down with the employee to go over the results and coach if necessary.
· Proactively helps coach employees in all facets of safety performance Including behavior; accident avoidance; driver safety training and workplace ergonomics.
· Helps with new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company safety goals.
· Conducts thorough investigations of safety incidents. Determines the root cause and makes recommendations for corrective action to prevent repeatable incidents from occurring. Assists employees in completing employee incident prevention report form. Performs post incident follow-up as needed.
· Follows up with customer safety concerns or incidents that are at customer’s locations. Goes onsite to take pictures and speak with homeowners.
· Retrieves security footage for incident reporting and or investigation. Provides footage to authorities and management team as needed.
· Works with the Compliance Specialist to help comply with all state and federal regulations including DOT, OSHA, EPA, SPCC, Homeland Security and others. Helps complete and update any regulatory documentation. Ensures a safe work environment.
· Helps and assists with Drug and Alcohol program.
· Review and assists with worker’s compensation and reports crashes/incidents in a timely manner.
· Develop safety polices and procedures as necessary.
· Perform other tasks assigned by manager to provide general support to the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ultimately it is the safety managers decision to ensure a safe working environment on and off site for all employees and customers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Five (5) years of experience in the transportation and or fuel industry with an emphasis on motor carrier safety rules. Must have knowledge and/or involvement with DOT, EPA, OSHA and HAZMAT regulatory requirements (both state and Federal level).
· Must be able to pass CETP 1.0 which is the Basic Principles of Propane.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must speak fluent English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, customers, and the general public. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office suite: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel . Must be able to create and write reports in all software programs we use. Ability to quickly learn our computer software systems we use. Google Drive and create and use Smartsheet. Must use Samsara our vehicle safety system. Also familiar with our training software Fred C Church.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
