Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant who will perform complex professional accounting activities and will be a valuable member of the Finance Team! Varied duties include but not limited to:
Conducting complex financial analysis, preparing financial reports, implementing new accounting techniques, and resolving accounting and financial problems;
Assisting in preparing long-range revenue and expenditure estimates and monthly analyses of expenditures and revenues;
Preparing, reviewing, and verifying the accuracy of financial statements, statistical and budgetary reports, postings to appropriate ledgers and subsidiary accounts;
Reconciling funds and accounts, performing bank reconciliations, and reporting findings to management;
Making recommendations and participating in the development of updated financial practices and procedures;
Performing month-end close procedure; reconciling general ledger;
Administering the County"s payroll and time attendance system and processing on an accurate and timely basis payroll for County employees;
Managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end activities including wage reconciliation, FICA, FUTA, SUTA, state and federal tax withholdings and W-2 production;
Processing court-ordered wage attachments;
Researching, evaluating, and processing employee pay, including retroactive pay adjustments, overpayments, underpayments, payment of leave at termination, etc.;
Coordinating with the Human Resources department to integrate employee payroll and benefit data to ensure best overall organizational practices for benefit issues and/or needs;
Reviewing, reconciling, and submitting for approval as needed, all payroll related transactions;
Serving as a back-up to the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable function;
Assisting with the development of the annual budget; and
Performing other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM WORK:
Bachelor"s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field from an accredited college or university
Four (4) years of related experience
Experience in local governmental finance or accounting preferred
Payroll processing experience preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, principles, and practices and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems
Thorough knowledge of payroll systems and payroll accounting
Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial records and to prepare financial statements and reports
Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, employees, and public officials
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.
