Senior Completions Engineer

Job Summary

Responsible for overseeing the design, planning, & operational execution of completions activities. Including but not limited to supporting processes such as stimulation design, well planning, material and service provider selection, quality assurance, real time optimization efforts, and post-job evaluations. Responsible for identifying cost reduction opportunities through the development of efficient completion practices or modified completion designs, as well as cost-efficient techniques to enhance production.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Design, Planning, & Preparation:

  • Plan and complete wells in a timely manner.
  • Develop completions designs and completion procedures to ensure proper execution.
  • Prepare cost estimates and authorization for expenditures (AFEs) for the completion of wells.
  • Hold pre-completion meetings and desktop execution meetings for critical operations.
  • Foster personal, cultural, and 3rd party relationship development by making regular field visits.

Execution, Cost Control Expectations, & Continuous Improvement:

  • Ownership of entire completion operation from well preparation, stimulation, drill-out & flowback operations.
  • Stage by stage monitoring of completion execution on a real time basis for pump schedule optimization.
  • Daily monitoring & QA/QC of field data capture as it relates to cost, activity summaries, & NPT analysis.
  • Work closely with field superintendent & wellsite supervisors on all aspects of completions operations.
  • Work with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) leads to optimize well site safety performance.
  • Assist with real time & post-job cost tracking as it relates to AFE versus Field Estimates versus Actual Costs.
  • Assist with preparing end of well look back reports and documenting lessons learned.
  • Assist with examining and preparing presentations of recommendations to solve well design problems.
  • Assist in researching, understanding, and interpreting cost drivers and risks associated with various completions procedures and utilize appropriate resources to implement safe and efficient completions of new wells.

Service Provider Interaction:

  • Work with Supply Chain team to assist in RFP criteria and vendor selection processes.
  • Set and manage expectations for service providers.
  • Communicate and work closely with vendors on a regular basis to improve operations & relationships.

Technology, Industry/Basin Trends, & Market Intelligence:

  • Gather market intelligence and drive continuous improvement.
  • Understand cost cutting completion techniques such as de-bundling efforts & simulfrac operations.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, improving operational efficiencies as well as well performance.
  • Research and stay informed on leading edge re-fracturing (MIRF) technologies and operational practices.
  • Evaluate competitor and partner performance and embed appropriate lessons learned.

Organizational Requirements:

  • Effectively communicate at various levels and with various audiences as well as across business units.
  • Interface with Reservoir engineering team to understand current completion trends, designs, & best practices.
  • Interface with Production engineering team on strategies and designs around first life artificial lift systems.
  • Live the GME Founding Principles.

Qualifications

  • A strong track record as a Completion Engineer including expertise in completion design and fracturing.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience in evaluating completion efficiency and reservoir performance including reservoir analytics such as rate transient and pressure transient analysis.
  • Comprehensive understanding in conducting hydraulic fracture simulation to simulate geometry, conductivity, and proppant placement for design and post job analysis.
  • Strong experience in Spotfire. Experience with OpenWells & PowerBI is a plus.

Education

  • Minimum B.S. in Petroleum Engineering (or similar degree) required
  • A minimum of 7 years of exploration & production industry experience
