THIS ROLE IS A HYBRID ROLE [Part Office; Part remote] and would require presence in the Nashville, TN area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Network Engineer III role primarily focuses on network architecture, planning, engineering, troubleshooting, and installing computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- VPN connection implementation and troubleshooting across multiple sites
- Manage network architecture for corporate office and center partner organizations
- Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems
- Upgrade network hardware and software components as required
- Install, upgrade, and configure network routers, switches, security appliances (firewall and intrusion detection appliances), and software on servers and appliances
- Provide second and third level network technical support
- Use network tools as required for proactive management of the physical and logical network
- Respond to the needs and questions of users concerning their access of resources on the network
- Establish network users, user environment, directories, and security for networks being installed
- Monitor and control the performance and status of network systems
- Coordinate with vendors involved in providing communications activities
- Utilize test equipment and network management components in the analysis and correction of technical problems for data communications equipment
- Coordinate the replacement of old communications cables in accordance with FCC and National Fire Code regulations and procedures
- Assist in the planning of new systems and evaluation of existing network systems
- Assist in providing technical advice to end-users and answering questions on problems related to network services
- Monitor data communications network to ensure that the network is available to all system users, and resolving data communications problems
- Receive and respond to telephone calls from users with data communications problems such as failure of data to be transmitted to other locations
- Review procedures users followed to determine if specified steps were taken
- Explain user procedures necessary to transmit data
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- 8+ years of demonstrated IT experience supporting and troubleshooting enterprise level, mission-critical applications resolving highly complex issues/situations and driving technical resolution across cross-functional organizations
- Advanced, senior-level knowledge of Frame Relay circuits, MPLS, Private Lines, BGP, OSPF, multi-protocol networks such as TCP/IP, IPX and Netbeui, IBM legacy SNA networking, Cisco routers and datacenter-switches, Palo Alto FWs, Brocade access-switches, Unix/Linux and Microsoft server connectivity, Gigabit and Ethernet deployments and the design and troubleshooting of cabling systems including fiber optic and CAT 5 and 6 cabling
- Senior level experience required in network design, deployment, and troubleshooting
- Senior level experience working with vendors to provision communications circuits
- Senior level experience deploying and configuring IPSec VPNs
- Senior level experience with network security infrastructure such as firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, security event monitoring, and web content filtering
- Experience designing and deploying wireless technology (802.11)
- Should be capable of giving a summary report after reading many engineering documents
- Should possess good research and consulting skills, and be capable of leading meetings and giving presentations to customers
- Responsible for performing network architecture reviews,
- Strong desire for personal development and learning
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college with an emphasis on a technical discipline or equivalent experience with a minimum of 8+ years managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, FWs, LBs, etc.
Must pass a background check and drug screen.
