The Senior Production Manager will report directly to the VP of Operations and will be responsible for overseeing all formulation and packaging schedules, targets, and productivity. They will spearhead various product quality and process efficiency initiatives - seeking to optimize all aspects of the department and helping to build a zero waste/defect operation. This candidate will be responsible for one of the most critical areas of the business and must be well-organized, have exceptional attention to detail, and an expert at all forms of communication. They will also have hands-on experience managing large-scale formulation operations as well as taking products from ideation stage to launch.This role will be responsible for production team hiring, training, and career path development.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Analyze product demand forecast, labor, and material availability and develop a flexible yet efficient master production schedule with the Production Planner, VP of Ops, and production Site Managers.
- Coordinate with Site Managers and production teams to set and fulfill daily, weekly, and monthly formulation and packaging schedules and production targets
- Responsible for ensuring communication between warehouse inventory team, internal shuttle team, and distribution team is effective and deliverables are met seamlessly
- Responsible for overseeing daily production and updating ensuring formulation, packaging, and inventory spreadsheets are accurate and up to date
- Responsible for driving Continuous Improvement strategies throughout the production sites and leads the teams in the development and application of best-practices
- Perform site inspections, ensure sites are operating efficiently and holds site managers accountable to maintain site upkeep, facility cleanliness.
- Ensure proper process controls are in place, process flows are efficient, and production data is being documented and reported consistently and accurately
- Develops and maintains SOP’s, QMS initiatives and ensures GMP adherence throughout the sites. Maintains SOP and GMP adherence throughout the shop floor.
- Lead team briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives.
- Coordinate and facilitate audits alongside the quality team
- Work with site managers, production teams, and VP of Ops to plan and build out process flows and process flow adjustments
- Coordinate with Production planner to build out master schedule and keep planning horizon out at least 12 months.
- Work with VP of Ops and Production Planner to map out storage and production capacity plans and coordinate with QC, production teams, facilities and maintenance department to put plans into action
- Evaluate issues and propose relevant solutions to design problems. Help ensure that plans are feasible, timelines are realistic and that the team is fully aligned with the project requirements
- Oversees and assists contractors with site projects, ensuring the safety, quality and cleanliness of work performed
- Work with VP of Ops to develop annual departmental budget, track expenditures and help spearhead CAPEX projects, and implement cost-savings initiatives
- Support production teams by identifying process gaps, supply gaps, and equipment/tool shortages and actively present solutions to teams and upper management
- Interface with Production, Quality, Shipping and Inventory Departments to ensure all goals are met, corrective actions are implemented, and site projects are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure preventative maintenance programs are sustained and equipment is in proper working condition. Coordinate fulfillment of work orders with Site Managers and Facilities and Maintenance team accordingly.
Requirements
- 4 or more years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required, including experience as either a Plant Manager or Manager/Director of Packaging.
- Food manufacturing or dietary supplement manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university, preferably a B.S. in Food Science, Engineering or Management preferred
- A demonstrated knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management and a track record of achieving results against a comprehensive set of KPIs.
- Excellent problem solving and reasoning skills required.
- Ability to analyze downtime and financial variance trends, identifying actions to deliver expected performance.
- Working knowledge of budgets, forecasting and metrics.
- Ability to effectively present information to all levels of the company; plant floor to executive leadership.
- Ability to work with cross functional teams including sales, marketing, customer service, supply chain and research and development.
- Proficient with Google Suite products and Microsoft Office applications including Google Sheets and Excel. ERP/MRP experience preferred.
