"Research Scientist 1 (G18): Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology or related field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.

Research Scientist 2 (G22): Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology or related field and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field."

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics or a related field. Familiarity with epidemiological research methods. The preferred candidate will have experience in public health disease surveillance, the ability to collect and analyze data and interpret results, excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as experience using SAS, Microsoft Access, and Excel.


Duties Description

The candidate will work in the Data Unit of the Bureau of Tuberculosis (TB) Control. Responsibilities will include: performing data management of the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS) and Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS) to ensure timely and accurate reporting of TB cases, communicating with regional and local partners around data issues, downloading and analyzing CDESS data to determine trends in TB morbidity, developing and executing statistical programs, assisting with TB research studies and the preparation of abstracts and posters for presentation at conferences and scientific meetings. Candidate will develop and oversee data procedures related to ECLRS and utilize the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed National TB Indicators Project.

Occasional travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation, is required.
