Job Title: Staff Accountant

JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant provides finance and accounting support to the Operations & Finance Director, frequently of a sensitive and confidential nature. The Staff Accountant has primary responsibility for maintaining accurate and reliable accounting records for the organization. In addition, the Staff Accountant may assist in maintaining office procedures, day-to-day office operations, including assignments related to human resources, supply management, file maintenance, implementation of assigned projects, and other administrative tasks, as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While the essential functions outlined below describe a significant portion of this positions assigned responsibilities, other functions and tasks may be assigned from time to time. In the spirit of cooperation and teamwork, it is expected that all employees will help further the mission and work of Fresno Metro Ministry:
· Provides finance and accounting support to the Operations & Finance Director, Deputy Director, Executive Director, and program staff as assigned.
· Implements changes or improvements in processes to help the organization become more efficient and effective. Continues to seek ways the organization’s finance and accounting functions can improve.
· Utilizes QuickBooks Online to maintain accurate and reliable accounting records for the organization, including reconciliations, journal entries, and proper posting of all other transactions.
· Generates various financial reports to assist the Operations & Finance Director, Deputy Director, Executive Director, and program staff in analyzing and making informed financial decisions for the organization.
· Assists the Operations & Finance Director and organization leadership in preparing and updating budgets and financial projections for the organization.
· Assists in the preparation of Board agendas; prepares and sends Board packets, including prior minutes, financial reports, and other items of importance.
· Assists the Operations & Finance Director with facilitating the accounts payable process, including proper recording of invoices, management of the payment process for outside vendors, and reimbursements to employees.
· Assists in preparation of payroll submission including calculation of hours for non-exempt employees and maintaining record of Employees Vacation Days and Sick Leave/Personal Days.
· Maintains an accurate donor database; records contributions including in-kind donations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
· A proven commitment to the mission and vision of Fresno Metro Ministry.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel.
· Skill and comfort in communicating orally and in writing with groups of all sizes, in person as well as through the electronic media.
· The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
· Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
· Capable of managing multiple tasks and thrive in a deadline driven environment with frequently changing priorities.
· Must have a valid California driver’s license; maintain state minimum levels of auto insurance, a clean driving record, the ability to be covered by the agency’s insurance carrier and reliable transportation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
An Associate of Arts degree (Bachelors preferred) from an accredited four-year institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a field relevant to the position’s assigned project area preferred. Three or more years of progressively responsible and diverse experience, preferably in a not-for-profit setting, with demonstrated effectiveness in community organizing and leadership. An inclusive leadership style that endorses collaboration. Strong oral and written communication skills. Personal qualities that include honesty, integrity and a commitment to Fresno Metro Ministry as well as the ability to inspire and motivate others.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally performed in an environmentally controlled setting. Events may be conducted indoors or outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Employee is regularly required to sit; stand, walk and climb stairs, speak and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use fingers and hands repetitively to operate office equipment including keyboards and to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or bend and may lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made in accordance with the ADA to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
COMPENSATION
Wage ranges from $20-$22. As this position is a full-time, benefited position, employer-funded health benefits will be provided and optional 403(b) employee salary reduction plan and AFLAC.
