NOTICE OF EXTERNAL RECRUITMENTPOSTING #SB-375-22ESTATIONARY MECHANIC - JOURNEYLOCATION: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, ENERGY RECOVERY SECTION, MAINTENANCE GROUP, PUENTE HILLS GAS TO ENERGY FACILITY, WHITTIERNOTE: The incumbent is responsible for responding to emergencies, have “on call duty”, may report to other Solid Waste/Energy Recovery Facilities as directed, be directly involved with the Annual Power Plant and Facility outages, be placed on a weekend emergency callout list, respond to emergency callouts as needed, and work overtime as needed. PERG is the base location, but this position supports the Puente Hills Landfill, Spadra Landfill, Scholl Canyon Landfill, Palos Verdes Landfill, Mission Canyon Landfill, Calabasas Landfill Gas-to-Energy Facility, Calabasas Landfill, Puente Hills Material Recovery and Intermodal Facility, Downey Area Transfer and Recycling facility, South Gate Transfer Station, Mesquite Regional Landfill and Intermodal Facility. A crane certification from the State of California may be required. Crane certification involves attendance at training sessions, passing written and/or practical examinations and providing annual evidence of medical fitness. In addition, the selected candidate must be medically cleared to wear a respiratory protection device. This is a 9/80 position with alternating Fridays as the RDO.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform more skilled preventive repair and maintenance of stationary equipment, machinery, and steam turbines, gas turbines, gas collection systems and water extraction systems at Solid Waste and Energy Recovery Facilities. JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of a Supervisor of Energy Recovery Plant Maintenance or Manager the incumbent performs precision repair, major overhaul, installation and preventive maintenance on a variety of specialized mechanical machinery and equipment including gas & steam turbines, stationary engines, blowers, pumps, chillers, fan assemblies, process and instrument air compressors, and gear boxes such as speed reducers and increasers; troubleshoots causes of equipment malfunctions, disassembles machinery and determines component functional capacity using visual inspection, gauges, calipers, micrometers, vibration analysis equipment, borescopes and other precision measuring and testing instruments; repair, replace or adjust malfunctioning components, re-assemble machinery using precision measuring and testing instruments to restore operating condition in accordance with specifications and manuals; inspects machines and equipment parts to prevent breakdown or malfunction; may recommend changes to units to improve operation of equipment; keeps records of repair work in completed; may provide apprentices with technical advice; and performs related duties as required. This position has independent and team related work assignments; use of office PC to write work requests / work orders, order materials, complete preventative maintenance documents and complete daily timesheet, this position also has responsibility for the safe operation and care of an F-550 service truck with boom crane and performing related duties as required. The STATIONARY MECHANIC is the journey level class of the series. Incumbents independently perform a wide variety of skilled repair and maintenance tasks utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of the trade.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
All applicants must possess all of the following: A valid California Class C driver license One of the following: Equivalent to four (4) years of directly related experience in the stationary mechanic apprenticeship program with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, one (1) year of which must have been at the Apprentice II levelSix (6) years of experience performing directly related skilled maintenance or craft duties involving the repair and overhaul of a variety of comparable machinery and equipmentTwelve (12) semester units of college coursework approved by the Districts or completion of one (1) year of a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for one year of the required experience; or graduation from a two-year trade school in a mechanical technology or closely related program may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
