HDR is currently in need of a Structural Engineer to work as a member of our Water Business Group within the Dams, Levees, and Civil Works Team in Washington.
Primary Responsibilities
This individual may work under the direction of a Senior Structural Engineer and will be responsible for the structural analysis and design of dams, levees, and other infrastructure projects. In the role of Structural Engineer, we will count on you to:
- Assist with condition assessment teams for various hydraulic structures and bridges.
- Conduct structural analyses, evaluations and designs; develop design options or recommendations with supporting calculations.
- Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
- Develop design plans, sections and details for civil works and bridge projects.
- Write and edit specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations for various structure types such as floodwalls, floodgates, sector gates, spillways, drainage structures, valve systems, lift/hoist systems and bridges.
- Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project.
- Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance and comment resolution.
- Conduct design development and contract document work sessions both in the office and at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Take responsibility for coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule.
- Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents

Required Qualifications
- BS Civil or Structural Engineering required. MS Civil Engineering a plus.
- 4+ years structural design experience. U.S Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works and Bridge design experience is an advantage.
- Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience preferred with computer applications in Civil Engineering; (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Risa 3D, MATLAB, Revit, Staad Pro, LS-DYNA, TrueGrid, and SAP2000). Previous structural inspection, and SPRAT (rope access certification) or FHWA Bridge Inspection Certifications also a plus.
- Professional Engineer licensure in the state of Washington, or ability to obtain within 6 months, with a desire to become registered in additional states as required.
- Strong interpersonal, speaking and written communication skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
- Fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This position requires onsite client visits, or, this position will be co-located at the client site. The client requires all contractors/consultants/vendors who work or visit the site be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
