LMR Technical Group (LMR) is seeking a Support Combat Arms Instructor.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide troubleshooting, testing, accountability, issuance control and management of various weapons systems, weapons equipment, and ammunition including: Glock-19 Pistol; MK 17, MK 20, and M1101A1 Rifles; M240, M249, and M2A1 Machine Guns; M-4A1 Carbines; M320 and MK 19 Grenade Launchers; Carl Gustav Rocket Launcher; the M107 Sniper Rifle; Rifle and Pistol Suppressors; Thermal, Reflex and Night Vision Sighting Devices; all ammunition associated with previously listed weapons; and Class 1.1 explosives used for Demolition training.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Individual shall perform in depth equipment checks, provide detailed maintenance, repair or disposal records; disassemble weapons/assemblies/subassemblies; examine for defects, mechanical problems; inspect for bulges/pits/cracks; and use hand tools, precision gauges and test instruments as required to repair weapons, and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect all unit equipment and work directly with either base support or local equipment maintenance for the repair and/or replacement of unit’s equipment when work cannot be done in house.
  • Handle small arms and associated small arms munitions when instructing students. Instructors will demonstrate weapons fire on light and heavy weapons systems and shall ensure safe training operations.
  • Perform duties as the Unit Explosive Safety Officer. Develops and maintains the unit’s explosive safety program, making changes to procedures as required. Conducts no-notice spot inspections of munitions storage. Conducts formal initial and annual explosive training to designated personnel on hazards and handling of munitions items. Assist the squadron safety officer in the documentation of mishaps and the reporting to higher headquarters. Understands and strictly observes all safety standards, requirements, and precautions in unit STTS Operating Instruction 91-13 and AFI 91-201
  • Inspect all unit equipment and work directly with either base support or local equipment maintenance for the repair and/or replacement of unit’s equipment when work cannot be done in house. Must have knowledge of weapon inspection procedures on all weapons designated in para.1.8. Determine serviceability condition, modifications required and extent of repairs necessary to place weapon back into service. Subject matter expert for weapons equipment and accessories. Perform preventative/scheduled maintenance for assigned equipment. Individual should have prior Combat Arms experience (have attended the Air Force Combat Arms Apprentice Course) or SOF sister service equivalent experience.
  • Perform duties as a Control Area Monitor (CAM). Act as a single point of contact for dealing with controlled area issues. Maintain a Controlled Area binder and develop STTS OI 36-2654A Armory Procedures to regulate entry and internal circulation control covering entry/exit procedures during normal/contingency/emergency conditions and bomb threat procedures. Controlled Areas will maintain a current letter designating a primary/alternate CAM. Unit monitors will train all other personnel working in the area
  • Perform duties as a Munitions Custodian. Maintain auditable records and to maintain accountabilities for all munitions assets up to Class 1.1 explosives. Custodian will be trained on the Combat Ammunition System (CAS) in order to submit request for ammunition and report expenditures.
  • Responsible for ensuring all weapons equipment is in good working order and prepared for mission/training use. Possess technical knowledge necessary to properly maintain an armory, conduct inventories, act as equipment custodian.
  • Creates computer inputs, maintains Master Custodian Authorization/Custody Receipt Listing (CA/CRL) Jacket Files and corrects errors identified on listings relating to equipment. Develops, implements, and provides for administrative functions in the section.
  • Perform duties as a Chief Range Officer (CRO) and Range Safety Officer (RSO). The CRO is responsible for overall safety on the range and enforces range safety regulations. The CRO ensures the correct number of RSO's are present for the amount of personnel conducting live-fire operations. The RSO supervise shooters on the firing line and maintain shooter safety during firing. The CRO ensures the range safety brief is conducted prior to placing the range in a "HOT' status. The sole duty of the RSO is to perform RSO duties and cannot perform any other duty or function on the range. The CRO is also responsible for ensuring coordination is conducted between both the CATM range and DIT range users when the CATM range is active.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Contractors must have an SEI Code of 312 (7 level CATM Instructor) or SOF sister service equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a SOF Weapons instructor.

Preferred Skills

  • SOF/Special Warfare or Rescue experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a SOF Weapons Instructor and an SEI Code of 312 (7 Level CATM Instructor) or SOF sister service equivalent.
  • Individual should have prior Combat Arms experience (have attended the Air Force Combat Arms Apprentice Course) or SOF sister service equivalent experience.

Physical Demands

  • Be able to handle, store Air Force munitions. Minimum weight required to lift objects is 50 lbs.
