SYSTEM TEST ENGINEER

Location: Walker, MI (3710 Northridge Dr NW)

Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Salary, Exempt

Experience/Seniority: Manager/Supervisor

Regular Hours: Monday - Thursday, 10 hour days (6am - 4pm) and Fridays only as needed/required

Remote Status: In-Office; this position is not open to regular remote work and you must be able to regularly commute to our location in Walker, MI.

Due to a continued plan for growth, we are seeking a dedicated individual to become our new System Test Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for development of test plans, test equipment design, programming of the test equipment, and building the equipment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform or coordinate testing to internal and international industry test standards.
  • Analyze test results and evaluate product and material performance against specified requirements.
  • Write test reports which are distributed to project teams and achieved corporately.
  • Assist in failure analysis investigations and recommend corrective action to project teams.
  • Investigate, analyze, update, write, and review test methods and specifications for new and existing materials and products, including creating plans for test method validation through research or field observations.
  • Provide input into technical product specifications or other project specific documents. Attend team meetings and assist in creating specific test plans for each testing phase as required.
  • Participate in technical design reviews on projects to which you are directly assigned.
  • Consult on technical issues with internal and external customers. Provide support to internal requests from dealers or customers.
  • May represent the company by actively participating in professional societies or committees.
  • Stay current with new developments in testing methods and equipment by reviewing trade literature, attending seminars, etc. and making recommendations on new equipment and processes for the continuous improvement of the lab.
  • Perform tests on harnesses, circuit cards and assembled units using basic knowledge of electricity, electronic components, and circuit concepts.
  • Read and understand electrical circuit drawings and diagrams.
  • Work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Other work-related tasks assigned by manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Technically and and detail oriented.
  • Highly accurate in laboratory testing procedures and can complete work in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate technical information, both verbal and written, throughout the organization.
  • Communicate test results to all levels of engineering in a professional, clear, concise, and tactful manner.
  • Consult with outside vendors and independent test labs on technical issues with ease.
  • Experience working with hand/power tools, are capable of working with machinery.
  • Work with electrical tools for the troubleshooting and repair of defective harnesses and other electrical assemblies: voltmeter, wire crimpers, wire cutters, etc.
  • Able to perform harness level rework, including cutting and stripping wires, crimping of terminals.
  • Knowledge of electronics handling precautions to prevent ESD and other forms of potential secondary damage.
  • Knowledge of Testing equipment: Cirrus Testing, HI Pot Testing, Chamber Testing, Submergent Testing.
  • Knowledge of IPC 610, IPC 620 and J-STD-001 requirements.
  • Experience with IPC standards regarding the acceptability of printed circuit boards IPC 610 and harnesses IPC 620 for Class 2 and Class 3 assemblies.
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work independently but also functions in a collaborative setting.
  • Flexible and able to manage changing priorities.
  • Able to repetitively lift weights up to 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: 4-year college degree in a technical, scientific, or related field (Preferred)
  • Experience: 2-4 years experience in product testing & analysis (Required); particularly in harness testing & electronics (Preferred)
  • Experience: Working with hand/power tools, and are capable of working with machinery (Required)
  • Knowledge: IPC 610, IPC 620 &/or J-STD-001 requirements (Required)
  • Knowledge: Mechanical Assembly (Required)
  • Skills: Troubleshooting, Technically Oriented, and Detail Oriented (Required)
  • Ability: To learn and network the organization; machine wiring may be required (Required)
  • Ability: To communicate a full understanding of company policy desired (Required)
  • Schedule: Work schedule must be suitable for production needs (Required)
  • Travel: Some travel required for vendor and customer visits (Required)
  • Physical Demands: Can frequently and repetitively lift up to 50 pounds (Required)
