The engineering industry is more technology-based than ever before and this presents exciting new challenges for our IT team. SSM is currently recruiting for a Systems Administrator with a minimum of 8 years of experience in the IT field. On any given day, the Systems Administrator can expect to be doing any of the following:
- Updating software.
- Securing our network.
- Researching software solutions.
- Keeping our team connected and excelling.
- Identifying future applications for our technical staff.
- Mentoring staff.
Based on the structure of our existing IT team, and the job duties, the right candidate for this position will be someone who demonstrates creative and innovative thinking, as well as the capacity to rely on his/her own sound judgment and independent thinking to accomplish goals and tasks.
The Systems Administrator is tasked with providing high-level, wide-range support of our IT infrastructure. This position is also tasked with actively working with our engineering and operational teams to create innovative opportunities that advance our work processes. This individual will design, organize, and modify the company’s existing systems, as well as evaluate the effectiveness and make necessary adjustments. In other words, this position will be tasked with helping to keep our company running smoothly – from remote connections, to network security, to integration of new software/hardware. SSM is early-on in our Microsoft 365 migration. The Systems Administrator will help architect and build SSM’s cloud environment from the ground up.
SSM’s current IT hardware environment includes a WAN built on Meraki firewalls and switches, which connects all of SSM’s physical locations. It includes Dell servers and workstations, and Ricoh printers and plotters.
- SSM currently uses Veeam and Backup Exec for backup and DR.
- SSM's current security stack is built on Cisco products, including Secure Endpoint (AMP), Umbrella, Cloud Email Security, and DUO 2FA.
- SSM’s IT environment is primarily Microsoft, and we also maintain a smaller Google cloud environment supporting specific clients. Our on-premises Microsoft environment includes Windows Server and failover clusters built on Hyper-V. These servers support Active Directory and provide network, file, and print services. Our on premises Microsoft domain is federated with Microsoft 365 using Azure AD connect, and our email service is provided by cloud Exchange.
- SSM’s Voice is provided by Direct Routing thru teams, and our Financial, Payroll, and HR systems are all SaaS.
- SSM’s PCs are mostly Windows, running some version of Microsoft Office. Some of our teams use iPads which are managed with Meraki Systems Manager (an MDM).
- SSM’s operating groups use advanced hardware and software technologies to provide our engineering, environmental, and surveying services to our clients. SSM makes extensive use of high-definition laser scanning and drone photography for reality capture. We are deeply invested in Autodesk, Bentley, and Leica products to support out design engineering and analysis work. Our Facilities team utilizes a variety of sophisticated software to provide datacenter design services for several worldwide clients. SSM's IT team provides various levels of support on all of the technology used by our operating groups.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in an IT curriculum, or a masters in an IT curriculum and at least 8 years of related experience.
- IT Certifications are preferred, especially Microsoft certifications in Microsoft 365, Teams, or Azure.
- Systems administration experience with Microsoft 365 is required.
In addition, this position requires a working knowledge of on premises network environments including:
- Firewall administration including VPN administration (experience with Meraki a plus)
- Cloud email filtering (experience with Cisco CES a plus)
- LAN\WAN routing
- Wireless administration
- Windows Server administration and deployment (security, AD, GP, file sharing, printing)
- Hyper-V Environments and failover clustering
- Microsoft Exchange Server administration
- Microsoft SQL Server administration
- Mail migrations and setup
- SAN design & implementations
- Familiar with managing various SaaS services, including Microsoft 365, spam filtering, managed AV, etc.
- Proficient in troubleshooting Windows Server and Desktop operating systems and hardware.
- Proficient in troubleshooting networking and firewall issues, including SonicWALL, HPE/Aruba, ADTRAN, Meraki, and Cisco.
- Proficient in troubleshooting VMWare and Hyper-V hypervisors.
