We are seeking a System Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure Services team. The ideal candidate must have a bachelor's degree in related area and a minimum of three years of IT Enterprise experience in a networked technology environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong communication skills (both written and verbal) who can work both independently and work well within a team.

This position is full-time 100% REMOTE that can work anywhere in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States or work out of one of our Eastern locations.

The System Engineer is responsible for a broad range of systems, administration, and operation support in an enterprise environment. The role will involve planning, scoping, architecting, and supporting physical, virtual and cloud server environments. A successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional technical, communication, problem-solving and analytical skills. This person will be detail-oriented, self-directed, and self-motivated, and be able to effectively communicate with and share information within the IT organization and organization at large.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, file servers, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.
  • Coordinates warranty renewals installs new and/or replaces existing hardware and configures in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Performs the role of Backup Engineer, engaging in engineering phases of backup software and related storage solutions delivery including planning, design, build, testing, and transition to operational support.
  • Provide input to analysis, design and direction regarding performance management and capacity planning services regarding backup infrastructure and related processes.
  • Troubleshooting of system and performance issues.
  • Problem solving and management of hardware in both physical and virtual environments
  • Performs and oversees continuous system health checks, administration, and application of patches and upgrades (E.g., Dell OpenManage Enterprise, Secure Remote Services)
  • Enhances efficiencies by implementing 3rd party tools and scripts (PowerShell, Robocopy)
  • Coordinates with outside vendors to resolve problems with hardware and software.
  • Assists in planning and deployment of disaster recovery procedures
  • Assists in creating documentation for use in awareness trainings for IT staff and employees.
  • Other duties include but are not limited to:
    • Coordinating supporting requirements as it relates to office moves and expansions.
    • Provides end user support via remote assistance and or telephone.
    • Member of an On-Call engineer rotation
Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and a minimum of three years' IT Enterprise experience in a networked technology environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge with Microsoft Windows Servers, Operations, and Applications. Linux experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with both physical servers and virtualized Microsoft Hyper-V servers. Clustered environment experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with both on-premises and cloud-based backup solutions.
  • Cloud (e.g., Azure/AWS) experience and Backup and Storage platforms (E.g., EMC and/or Dell DataDomain) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Cisco/Meraki hardware is a plus (Layer 2/3 Switches, Wireless APs) along with TCP/IP, 802.1x, and VLANs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory Site and Services/Users and Computers/Group Policy Management
  • Knowledge of Windows Domain Controller DNS and DHCP protocols
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (E.g., PRTG, WhatsUp Gold, ManageEngine Tools)
  • Commitment to continual development of technical skillsets and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Must possess a strong customer service focus
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours

EDUCATION/SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
  • The following certifications/trainings are preferred but not required:
    • CompTIA A+ Certification
    • ITIL
    • Microsoft Certification
