GENERAL PURPOSE SUMMARY
Maintains and grows key trust, estate, conservatorship and investment management business relationships; oversees the administration of the higher level, most complex trust, estates, conservatorships and other fiduciary accounts; serves as primary back-up to Trust Department Manager; works with highest income potential accounts; creates and maintains highly productive COI relationships with attorneys, accountants, financial professionals, prospects and former clients; and operates under high discretionary approval limits by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly executes all the activities set forth in the bank’s Business Development Program as outlined for the Trust Department, including scheduling proactive meetings with customers, prospective customers and Centers of Influence (COIs), tracking and reporting calls and pipeline details, creating and participating in bank-sponsored events designed to strengthen customer relationships and networks, and engaging in relevant community organizations and events.
  • Acquires, expands and retains key trust, estate, conservatorship and investment management business relationships by identifying banking opportunities, strategizing proactive business development activities, cultivating referral networks, and focusing on viable target markets.
  • Represents the Trust Department in the community; acquires and maintains business relationships with customers, attorneys, and beneficiaries relating to the management of trust accounts; analyzes the needs of existing and potential customers considering account profitability and other related factors to market the appropriate bank product/service and manages account investments for optimal performance.
  • Trains, mentors, and provides enhanced knowledge to less experienced Trust Officers on the most complex issues.
  • Administers higher level and most complex trust, estate, conservatorship and other fiduciary accounts and ensures compliance with enabling documents, department policies and procedures, applicable regulations, statutes and legal precedents.
  • Prepares investment and business development presentations, and writes proposals for presentation to management, bank customers, potential clients, or governmental entities.
  • Directs, compiles and coordinates information required for fiduciary accounts and investment management; operates within approved discretionary limits; makes recommendations to the Trust Committee for over- limit situations; oversees tax planning and tax preparation.
  • Assists Trust Manager in the preparation of financial and regulatory reports required by law and the Board of Directors.
  • Performs the function of Portfolio Manager with assistance of tools provided by the Trust Committee, calculating the maturity, duration, and performance of portfolios, comparing to established benchmarks, and presenting reports of portfolio performance upon request.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise employees. Serves as primary back-up to Trust Department Manager. In the supervisory role, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; addresses complaints; resolves problems, and may be requested to make hiring, evaluating, and terminating recommendations regarding employees.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, accounting or finance required plus eight (8) years advanced trust officer experience; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience. Client relationship management experience.
Preferred: Law degree plus eight (8) years related experience of which six will be advanced trust officer experience; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience. Marketing experience, professional trust certification; supervisory/lead experience and experience managing highly involved account administration.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Familiarity with legal terminology and working knowledge of sound fiduciary principles required; word processing and spreadsheet software experience required. Presentation software skills preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, management, clients, attorneys, and accountants.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical principles such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING SKILLS:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables.
