POSITION SUMMARY

The Underground Operator is responsible for using a variety of machinery in underground installations, such as mini-excavators, vibratory plows, pneumatic missile, and directional drills to perform a variety of tasks depending on the project needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operates underground installation equipment including mini-excavators, vibratory plows, and directional drills.
• Safely hauls cable and conduit reels along their journey across long distances and burying them according to engineering design documentation.
• Understanding how to proficiently set up the job (equipment placement, reel trailer placement)
• Knowing how to expose (pothole) other utilities
• Understanding the utility locate process, as well as verifying locates exist before performing work
• Properly accounting for clearances from other utilities under the ground, road, highway, sidewalk, and non-pedestrian areas
• Proper restore work areas to original condition
• Understanding and interpreting architectural, engineering and utility right-of-way grid maps
• Manually load and unload materials
• Safely utilize various construction hand tools
• Drive truck to/from job locations (with the proper licensing requirements)
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) while working including but not limited to hard hat, reflective vest, and safety goggles
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment for yourself and the other members of your team
• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to work in remote or congested traffic areas
• Willingness to work outdoors in every type of weather
• Ability to work alone or with crews
• Ability to work safely

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Experience in operating construction equipment mini-excavators, vibratory plows, and directional drills
• Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
• Available for travel away from home when needed

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED
• CDL
• Prior construction experience
• 21 years of age or older
