Position Description
Position requires excellent organization, oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work with a minimum of direction as well as the ability to work as part of a team. Successful applicant must have experience working with Microsoft Office.
Position Objective:
The role of the Victim Advocate is to work one on one with victims as the proceed through the justice system.
Position Functions
Essential Functions:

- Provide legal advocacy to victims on behalf of the State's Attorney's Office.
- Meet with victims as needed and before court hearings.
- Work with other agencies to coordinate case planning and follow up.
- Contact all victims in accordance with the State statutes and Marsy's Law.
- Explain the justice system to victims.
- Document case activity.
- Accompany victims to court.
- Assist victims is writing a Victim Impact Statement.
- Assist victims in finding community resources to help with basic needs.
- Maintain statistical data necessary for grant reporting, if needed.

Qualifications
Experience and/or Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field preferred.
- One year of related experience is preferred.
- Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull and manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer telephone.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed.
Additional Information
Working Environment:
- Most work is performed indoors in an office where noise and interruptions often occur.
- Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines.
- Some travel may be required for training and meetings.
