Headquarters: This position has the option to work 100% remote with a requirement that the employee is expected to have access to secure high speed internet. The position is headquartered at 17 West Main Street in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Mileage reimbursement for traveling to the employee’s headquarters is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

Position Summary

This position is part of the Wisconsin Victim Resource Center (VRC) and works with victims of crime statewide. This position will provide victim and witness assistance services in cases being investigated and/or prosecuted by the Department of Justice when local victim assistance services are not available. Direct victim assistance may include, but is not limited to, providing victim accompaniment to court, assisting with victim impact statements and restitution documentation, providing case status updates and notifications.

This position will also draft correspondence, coordinate mailings, and document services provided to ensure that DOJ complies with crime victims’ rights requirements. This position will help staff DOJ’s victim assistance toll-free phone line. Staffing the OCVS toll-free line requires this position to speak with crime victims, assess callers’ needs and requests, identify potential resources, identify potential victims’ rights violations, provide direct assistance and/or advocacy when appropriate, and make appropriate referrals to other OCVS programs or other state or community resources, as needed.

Salary Information

The Victim Services Specialist position is in pay schedule 12 and pay range 64. The starting pay will be between $27 - $30/hr. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

Travel Requirements: Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.

States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following:

  • Communicating with clients and/or customers to address concerns over the phone, gather information, assess requestor needs, make referrals to appropriate resources, and/or provide direct advocacy.
  • Working with victims in an advocacy or assistance role.
  • Working with individuals who have experienced trauma related to crime victimization.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have education, training, and/or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Hmong language proficiency
  • Experience providing direct crime victim services within the criminal justice system
  • Professional experience conducting safety planning or discussing safety strategies with crime victims
