WCCC and Adult Student Admissions Counselor

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: This position is responsible for recruiting new and returning to CMU traditional and non-traditional students to WCCC and CMU that includes creating, implementing and executing communications and recruiting plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Create and implement a communications and recruitment plan, for both high school and college level programs, to address the dynamic needs of a diverse prospective student population, including identifying gaps and working to provide solutions, particularly with associates and certificate programs.
  • Collaborate with the Transfer and Adult Admissions Team and CMU marketing team to develop new, and improve, current marketing materials for WCCC.
  • Provide interpersonal and technical assistance with the application process and with the distribution of pertinent information to prospective and admitted WCCC and adult CMU students.
  • Manage the process to rectify partially completed admissions applications and is responsible for communicating with those prospective students.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of the campus recruitment module to assist in developing close relationships and communication with prospective students.
  • Coordinate recruitment strategies including goal setting, scheduling visits, maintaining tracking records, identifying demographic trends, and building relationships with high school counselors, local employers, public service personnel, and other prospects through various forms of communication.
  • Provide presentations in high schools and actively and frequently recruit students and disseminate information at parent teacher conferences, educational workshops, orientations, college, job, student organizations such as FFA, FBLA, DECA, ProStart and career fairs.
  • Make in-office and external presentations to prospective students and families, conduct ongoing follow-up communication, answer daily phone inquiries, counsel walk-in traffic, and lead campus previews and tours.
  • Assist students in the admissions process while maintaining a high awareness of WCCC/CMU admission requirements and policies. Perform preliminary financial aid, scholarship, housing, and career counseling, spotlighting the related benefits of WCCC/CMU to the prospective student, as well as counseling with parents and high school and college personnel.
  • Monitor applicants to WCCC programs, which require additional applications/steps for program acceptance, and notify applicants regarding the additional requirements.
  • Manage scheduling, planning and completing WCCC tours for prospective students.
  • Assist students with course registration both online at CMU website and in BANNER, demonstrating current, detailed, and accurate knowledge of college programs.
  • Act in liaison capacity with community agencies to increase collaboration for special programs and to ensure that WCCC/CMU interacts with all areas affecting college student enrollment. Monitor application components and serve as a resource for facilitating program success.
  • Offer support, patience, and enthusiasm while guiding and challenging adult students to new levels of competence and excellence.
  • Contact each student within respective recruitment territory at least once every two weeks.
  • Develop individualized plans for students to address their academic needs and life skills.
  • Assist the students in prioritizing admissions and enrollment tasks.
  • Maintain weekly paperwork with accuracy and detail and report to Associate Director of Transfer and Adult Admissions in a timely manner.
  • Attend admissions and coaching meetings and trainings to stay informed about adult student events and participate in information sharing with other coaches and staff.
  • Participate in and assist with organizing a minimum of two adult student community and enrichment activities per semester
  • Attend and participate in CMU admissions staff meetings and WCCC Student Services staff meetings
  • Must attend CMU admissions and WCCC Student Services trainings
  • Able to travel and work evenings and weekends.
  • Assist WCCC Student Services team with office coverage
  • Act as a contact point with WCCC faculty for recruitment events

    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad audience including direct communication and public speaking in front of a large audience specific to the benefits of career and technical education.
  • Strong ability and enthusiasm in promoting and encouraging individuals to further their education
  • Proven ability to multi- task with critical deadlines with minimal or no direction
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license by date of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply computer technology to enhance productivity in the workplace.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • One year of experience in the area of sales, higher education admissions, program planning, or recruiting
  • One-year experience in a public speaking role
  • One year of experience networking and the ability to relate to individuals from a variety of circumstances
  • Spanish-Speaking
