Wine Tasting Room Lead Job at Airfield Estates Winery
Airfield Estates is a family-owned and operated winery and vineyard situated in the Yakima Valley. We have been growing wine grapes on our 4th generation family farm for over half a century, crafting premium estate grown wines for 17 years, and currently operate 3 Tasting Rooms in Washington State.

The Tasting Room Lead must be a committed, trustworthy, hardworking team player with a love for wine and people that can thrive in a busy, fast-paced work environment. This position will perform an array of essential operational tasks to facilitate wine tastings, sales, and the sign-up of new wine club members.
Serving as an ambassador of Airfield Estates Winery, the Tasting Room Lead is expected to provide outstanding customer service and must convey a passion for our products and brand. All efforts should be focused on ensuring guests have a positive, memorable experience at our tasting room and leave feeling more connected to our winery, our brand, and the tasting room crew.
The lead is expected to uphold a high level of customer service, integrity, and teamwork at all times while promoting workplace efficiencies and striving for continuous growth and improvement. Reporting directly to the Hospitality and Sales Manager, this position will help oversee the daily operations of the tasting room leading the crew and setting the tone for exceptional service.
Duties/Responsibilities
Daily Operations
- Opening/Closing of Tasting Room
- Conducting Wine Tastings
- Serving guests
- Sales
- Wine Club Sign-Ups
- Stocking of Supplies, Wine, and Merchandise
- Food Prep, Serving, and Bussing
- Merchandising, Signage, and Displays
- Housekeeping
Guest Relations
- Greet each guest with a warm and friendly welcome
- Connect with guests, build rapport, get to know them by name, learn their wine preferences, and keep them coming back
- Respond promptly and courteously to customer needs, questions, or concerns
- Always bid each guest a fond farewell
Brand Building
- Tell our story – educate guests on our winemaking techniques, viticulture practices, estate vineyard, multigenerational farming heritage, and historical ties to aviation
- Promote our wide range of estate grown wines
- Learn product information to assist guests with making selections and purchases
- Inform guests on the benefits of our wine club
Sales
- Drive revenue by selling wine and merchandise to guests.
- Grow our wine club by attracting new members to sign up for the wine club and retaining existing club members
- Help track daily sales and strive to meet performance goals
Events
- Keep informed on daily happenings in the tasting room and help keep the tasting room crew updated on information, changes, events, promotions, etc.
- Assist with planning, set-up, execution, and/or break-down of tasting room events
- Participate with offsite events as needed
- Help manage reservations
- Host VIP Tastings
Leadership
- Help foster a positive safe workplace and a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and good communication
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and maintain a positive, can-do attitude at all times
- Be a self-starter identifying areas of the business that need tending to
Administration
- Account for daily sales and till reconciliation nightly
- Assist with monthly inventory counting
- Ensure tasting fees are recorded accurately in point of sale
- Accurately report wine samples
- Ensure customers can be included in effective marketing campaigns by collecting their contact information and tying transactions to customer records
- Review wine club signups and ensure proper information is collected
- Troubleshoot with technical issues such as POS & card swipes malfunctions, problem transactions, internet connections, and any other issues that arise
Safety
- Report any safety concerns or injuries immediately to you supervisor
- Use proper safety techniques such as lifting, bending, reaching above shoulders, glass disposal and hand cart utilization.
Facility Maintenance & General Housekeeping
- Report any facility maintenance issues
- Keep a clean and sanitized work environment complying with state and county regulations along with company guidelines
- Organize office supplies and building supplies
- Maintain stock room organization
- Break down empty cases and recycle
- Ensure appearance organization and cleanliness of all tasting room areas meet or exceed expectations
Brand Ambassador & Community Involvement
- Always representing the company with a high level of professionalism

Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be able to obtain a Class 12 MAST Permit and Washington State Food Worker Card
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Fluent in English
- Exceptional understanding and application of the principals of customer service
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of and passion for wine
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of attention to detail
- Project management skills and multi-tasking ability
- Must be able to work weekends and flexible schedules
- Responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs. repeatedly using proper lifting techniques
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time (8+ hours per day)
- Ability to twist, squat, and reach above your shoulders.
Compensation:
$17-$18 per hour plus tips (tips average $15 per hour)
