Archaeological Field Technician – Full Time/ Temporary

POWER Engineers is seeking an Archaeological Field Technician for our Western Cultural Resources Group, based out of our Salt Lake City, Utah office, for upcoming fieldwork in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. This individual will assist senior archaeologists with fieldwork, laboratory analysis, monitoring, and preparation of technical reports and environmental documents. Experience in Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona, and/or Wyoming is helpful but not required.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to perform pedestrian survey, test excavation, and data recovery excavation. Candidates should be familiar with archaeological site recording, artifact identification, mapping, and other common field tasks. Candidates will be required to hike over long distances over potentially difficult terrain through potentially inclement weather. Proper clothing and field gear will be required. Projects may involve travel in remote locations. Preference will be given to candidates local to Salt Lake City, Utah, and the surrounding area.

Travel and Compensation:

Travel to projects will be provided if the candidate can be in the Salt Lake City area for mobilization. No travel time or expenses will be paid for those candidates who wish to meet field crews at a project’s location. This position is full-time; pay is dependent on experience but will range from $20 to $30/hr. Benefits include potential spot bonuses, paid safety training that is transferrable to other employers, and competitive per diem.

Required Skills/Experience

  • B.A or B.S in Anthropology or Archaeology and one to two years of relevant field experience, OR a minimum of three to four years of regionally specific archaeological field experience
  • Must have completed an Archaeological field school

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience with GPS mapping
  • Experience with Report Writing
  • Experience with artifact identification and recording
  • Experience with site form completion and editing
  • Experience in Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, Colorado, or Wyoming is helpful but not required\
  • Willingness to travel and open to potentially long-term project postings.
  • Utah (or nearby state) Residence preferred
