The Coding School (TCS) is seeking a Deputy Director of Development specializing in the nonprofit arena. The Deputy Director of Development will be responsible for spearheading development/fundraising efforts as TCS continues to grow and will report to the Executive Director. Specifically, this position will develop and execute a strategic financial plan, including corporate partnerships, grants, foundations, and individual donors. As a new position in the organization, the Deputy Director of Development will have the opportunity to build the development function, employing creative and strategic approaches to secure funds.

TCS has successfully received sponsorship with Fortune 500 companies to develop global initiatives, formed partnerships with top research universities, and received federal funding to support multi-year national programs. TCS is looking for a Deputy Director of Development to build upon these initial successes and achieve our annual $5 million fundraising goals. The right candidate will bring an entrepreneurial approach to develop and execute a strategic and ambitious fundraising plan, helping to ensure TCS maximizes its reach and impact.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising strategy, including grants, corporate partnerships, foundations, and individual donors;
  • Source and scope government, corporate, and foundation grants; prepare submissions, including writing and editing proposals, coordinating with partners, and developing budgets; and maintain required reporting to funding sources;
  • Create and execute strategy to increase the number of overall donors and foster stewardship with relevant donors;
  • Identify donor prospects who have the potential to develop into major donors or interest in making planned gifts and implement strategies to foster positive relationships;
  • Lead the planning and management of fundraising events;
  • Prepare reports and communication for all financial obligations, including newsletters to donors, reports to corporate partners, and bi-annual reports for the Board;
  • Create and negotiate contracts, agreements, MOU’s;
  • Ensure TCS communications, including mailings, website, and social media, reflect development interests appropriately;
  • Work with the Executive Director and Program Director to develop initiatives and programs to fulfill donor obligations or as strategic initiatives to foster new relationships;
  • Develop decks/presentations, brochures, annual giving reports, and other materials for prospective and current partners.

Required skills / experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in nonprofit fundraising, including knowledge in individual donors, grants, foundations, and corporations;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing a team with differing skill sets;
  • Strong, proven fundraising/development skills with a successful track record in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding individual donors corporations and foundations in a range of development activities;
  • Previous history of leading and raising individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, and grants of $250K+;
  • Experience in successful grant funding including identifying relevant grants, grant writing, and preparing grant submissions;
  • Proficiency in computer financial applications including fundraising research platforms
  • Superior analytical skills and problem solving abilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (oral, written, and presentation) are essential, and the ideal candidate will have experience in the design and direction of a full range of communications to supporters and to the public;
  • Ability to travel required. Occasional evening and weekend work required as needed.

Additional Information:

All positions are Full-Time. Compensation will be competitive compared to similar roles in the nonprofit space and based on experience and skill level. Benefits include health insurance and paid time off.
