LEAD FOOD SERVICE WORKER

Definition

Under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor, the Lead Food Service Worker directs and participates in the operation of a Production Kitchen, performs a variety of tasks including preparing, cooking, and serving foods in large quantities, and coordinates and monitors the duties of food service workers in a lead capacity.

Essential Duties

  • Acts as lead in coordinating and monitoring the duties of Food Service Workers.
  • Directs and participates in the preparation, serving and/or transporting of food for daily menu and special events.
  • Requisitions food and supplies from the warehouse.
  • Assures overall quality and quantity of food served.
  • Operates and maintains equipment in the kitchen.
  • Directs and assists in the cleaning of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, kitchen equipment and food service areas.
  • Completes daily production records for elementary schools and middle school.
  • Ensures that general sanitation and safety procedures are followed.
  • Oversees food preparation and/or service for State and Federal Nutrition Grants.
  • Assures that the kitchen and storage areas are clean and organized.
  • Handles and disposes of refuse, using proper sanitation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Food quantity for preparation, food service and sanitation principles as it applies to school food service.

ABILITY TO:

  • Follow written and verbal directions.
  • Read and write English.
  • Perform assigned tasks without close supervision.

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade. One year of paid or unpaid experience in a kitchen, preferable in a school district. Serv-Safe Certificate required.

1-25 pounds; carry/push 1-25 pounds; specific vision abilities required include close vision to read and enter data into a computer; ability to distinguish sounds in transmission, speaking.

Frequently exposed to extreme cold and heat from freezers and ovens. Works with or near mechanical parts as in mixers and slicers.

License Requirement

  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • Ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Current Standard Red Cross First-Aid and CPR Certification.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification

Conditions of Employment

Appointment to this position predicated on successfully passing a district paid physical examination. Within three days of employment, all new employees shall show appropriate documents which certify that they are legally eligible to work in the United States. In addition, the selected candidate must complete the state fingerprinting requirements and the district must receive a Certificate of Clearance by the California Department of Justice.
