The general role of the Mechanical Technician / Millwright is to move, assemble, install or dismantle machinery within industrial settings such as factories and manufacturing plants. This individual will use various industrial tools, read work orders, blueprints and customer orders to complete jobs, as well as perform other construction-oriented tasks as assigned.

The Mechanical Technician / Millwright will report to the Sr. Mechanical Engineer based out of the Grantsville, MD location, however the work will be performed in various areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Use a wide variety of tools, from hammers and wrenches to blowtorches, forklifts and more
  • Lift heavy objects and/or be able to secure and move large objects with the use of equipment
  • Will physically manipulate objects with tools
  • Performs installs and repairs on machinery
  • Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, plumb bobs, etc.
  • Read blueprints and other technical documents to put machinery together
  • Assembles machinery and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools
  • Selects cables, ropes, chains, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches
  • May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment
  • In addition, may perform all duties of General Laborer, Skilled Laborer and Carpenter, and possibly Electrician.
  • Troubleshoot to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue

Qualifications:
  • Preferred candidates will possess a high school diploma or GED, a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and general knowledge of worksite safety
  • Must possess mechanical skills and experience in a wide variety of industrial jobs
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, possess a positive attitude, and be willing to work independently or in a team environment
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule that may include extended work hours, occasional weekends, travel, out-of-town and overnight work
  • Must possess excellent math skills including adding, subtracting, decimals and fractions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to work independently, follow instructions, multi-task while maintaining a clean work area.
  • Must possess a proven history of Safe Practices and Safety Awareness
Working Conditions
  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and turn tools; reach and extend hands and arms; crawl, kneel, lay, and climb ladders
  • Lift, handle and maneuver parts and tools and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds unassisted
  • Be safety and customer-focused, without exception

This position requires the completion of a thorough background and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. In accordance with The Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy, employees are required to participate in random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested.
