This is a responsible, specialized, position performing a wide variety of maintenance and administrative duties involving park maintenance, planning and recordkeeping. Park Specialists maintains work order records, asset inventory information for the Parks Division.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks and Facilities Maintenance Manager. Position may serve as crew leader and/or lead worker as directed by supervisory staff. Work is inspected and reviewed though written performance evaluations.
Performs restroom and shelter cleaning, trash removal, mowing, playground maintenance and a wide range of general park maintenance work.
Operates Division equipment and tools associated, with tree trimming, tree removal, tree planting and general maintenance.
Assists with volunteer projects, works as a liaison between other city departments, the general public, outside agencies, contractors, and volunteer organizations as needed.
Assists with the maintenance of current files of all chemical applications and SDS sheets; Keeps records of all chemical and material applications in compliance with OSHA and Ohio Department of Agriculture regulations.
Provides and fulfills staffing needs responding to absentee coverage.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with citizens, vendors, city and departmental staff is needed.
Ability to work within all standard safety practices associated with the trade in order to maintain a safe working environment.
Performs other related duties as required.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to perform various tree operations.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Possession at the time of appointment of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Advanced higher education in related field preferred. Must have three or more years of work related experience in the area of specialization needed to perform the work.
Demonstrated, self- motivated and independent worker is preferred.
Possession of valid Ohio commercial driver's license.
Red Cross CPR and First Aid preferred.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.
Personal Leave
Eligible for 24 hours of personal leave if more than 500 hours worked in previous calendar year.
Eligible for 40 hours of personal leave if more than 1000 worked in previous calendar year.
