Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor for Older Adults Job at Spring Lake Village

Position Summary: Functions as part of the Wellness Team as well as independently in planning, promoting, and implementing wellness activities and programs for both residents and staff. Performs resident fitness assessments and recommends appropriate exercise programs either in a class setting or in the Fitness Room. Instructs group exercise classes for all fitness levels. It is required that this position be in full compliance with HIPAA.

Responsibilities include:

· Sub or teach a variety of exercise classes emphasizing strength, endurance, balance and flexibility for seniors of all functional levels

· Develop individualized exercise programs utilizing fitness room equipment and/or home exercise to meet resident fitness goals and provide ongoing monitoring and updating of residents’ fitness programs as needed.

· Utilize Exercise Logs to track each resident’s participation in their exercise program in the Fitness Room

· Utilize Interactive Health Partner (online fitness and wellness tracking system) for inputting data regarding resident’s health history, health metrics, fitness and balance assessments, exercise prescriptions and exercise participation

· Assist in administering resident fitness and balance tests, including HUR iBalance (tests and trainings)

· Participate in continuing education to maintain currents licenses and stay current in field

· Keep fitness room clean and neat

· Manage paperwork for Release of Liability forms in Fitness Room and Pool binders as well as Exercise Participation Waivers

· Assist Wellness Director and Coordinator with keeping residents informed regarding wellness programming via Channel 998, Senior Resources Explorer and telephone voice messaging system.

· Attend Resident Wellness Committee and staff Wellness Committee meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to develop and implement exercise programs for seniors of all functional levels, i.e. seated exercise classes for low functioning population up to creating programs to appropriately challenge high functioning seniors.

Ability to instruct and motivate both individuals and groups.

Comfortable, sincere and excited about working with the older adult population.

Ability to make exercise social and fun and possess a good sense of humor.

Knowledge regarding the most current research on senior wellness and fitness and able to incorporate this information in exercise programming.

Knowledgeable regarding injuries common to seniors and strategies to prevent injury. Ability to read, speak well and be understood in the English language.

Knowledgeable regarding Microsoft Word, Excel and basic computer skills.

Education and Qualifications:

Bachelors or certification in Exercise Science or related discipline (i.e. physical therapy, personal training, physical education, exercise physiology, Arthritis Foundation certification in exercise instruction, etc.) combined with relevant continuing education and professional experience working with seniors.

Certification with ACSM, ACE, AFAA, or SFA helpful but not mandatory.

Current CPR Certification.
