Through new technologies, novel scientific insights, and international clinical collaborations, we strive to set a new standard of health care research for Veterans and military personnel.

Position Definition:

We are seeking a full-time statistician with expertise in bioinformatics to join an active research program focused on using “big data” to construct cohorts and answer clinically relevant questions in the public health field of computational epidemiology, telehealth, and implementation science. Individuals with a background in epidemiology, statistics, bioinformatics, health services research or related field are welcome to apply to join this research program based in the San Francisco VA. This job involves working directly with UCSF/ SFVA Faculty.

Current studies include:

1) Mimicking a clinical trial using national VA, COVID-19 vaccine, and health outcomes data to assess booster effectiveness

2) Examining the biological determinants of health outcomes, particularly using national SARS-CoV-2 viral sequencing and human genetics data

3) Assessing gaps and barriers in telehealth for chronic disease management, health outcomes and clinical decision-making

The incumbent will be responsible for developing analysis plans, performing and interpreting statistical analyses, and contributing to research publications and presentations.

Essential Functions:

  • Merger of different data sources
  • Data extraction and data cleaning to create analytic datasets
  • Conduct data analyses with statistical and predictive models
  • Contribute to research publications and presentations
  • Be able to work as a constructive team member

Job Requirements:

· MS in biostatistics, epidemiology, data science or related field

· At least 2 years prior experience in the analysis of clinical data with experience in large database analyses

· Experience in programming and cleaning data

· Experience with machine learning techniques, bioinformatic algorithms and data science

· Proficient in SAS, Stata or R

· Proficient in SQL

· Experience with a wide range of statistical and predictive modeling methods including multivariable linear and logistic regression, GEE and linear mixed models, survival analysis, propensity score methods, multiple imputation, marginal structural modeling, meta-analysis, LASSO, supervised classification, clustering, and probabilistic graphical models.

· Strong computer skills and ability to apply study-specific software

· Ability to work with text data a plus

· Strong interpersonal, written/oral communication, and organizational skills

· Able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
