Job Description:
The Center for Energy Studies (“CES”) at the Louisiana State University (“LSU”) seeks applicants for Research Associate 1, 2, or 3 position.
Research Associate 1
Job Responsibilities:

Assist with data cleaning, maintenance and updating of CES energy-related databases and spreadsheets. RA will use basic statistical analysis tools such as Excel, Stata, and R. RA 1 is not expected to have prior experience with data cleaning and management but be open to learning these skillsets. (20%)

Become familiar and learn to work with ArcGIS or other GIS software to create, edit, and analyze shapefiles and geodatabases. The candidate will also create maps and visualizations that effectively communicate spatial data insights. RA 1 is not expected to have prior experience with GIS but be open to learning these skillsets. (20%)

Assist with research projects by working collaboratively with other research members by conducting literature reviews, collecting and validating data, and performing analysis at the direction of faculty. The RA will also contribute to the preparation of research reports and publications. (20%)

Assist with the data cleaning, preparation, and analysis procedures used to ensure data quality and reproducibility. They will also assist with maintaining detailed metadata to help other researchers understand the data sets they are working with. (20%)

Assist with CES outreach, update presentations geared towards stakeholders and other miscellaneous tasks. This also includes assisting with the management of the Energy Information Center, CES website, and supporting the business manager & communications manager as needed. (20%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and strong written and oral communication skills. A degree in economics, statistics, or related fields is preferred, but not required. Economics students with coursework on econometrics will also be considered. Work experience is also preferred but not required. The compensation offered to a candidate will depend on their experience and educational credentials. Candidates who are eager and willing to learn are encouraged to apply even if they do not possess all the skills mentioned above.
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in economics, statistics, similar degree. Economics students with coursework on econometrics will also be preferred. Work experience is also preferred but not required.
The job level (RA 1 through 3) as well as the compensation will be influenced by a candidate’s experience and educational background.
Research Associate 2
Job Responsibilities:

Independently perform data cleaning, maintenance and updating of CES energy-related databases and spreadsheets. RA will use basic statistical analysis tools such as Excel, Stata, and R. RA 2 might have some prior experience with data cleaning and management, but proficiency is not required. RA 2 should be open to expanding these skillsets.
