Senior Manufacturing Engineer Job at Tyler Union
Summary Objective:
Create, develop, and implement tooling and metrics to eliminate waste in the manufacturing process for ductile iron pipe fittings for the water works industry. Use advanced manufacturing processes and knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls, coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
- Develop, evaluate, improve, and eliminate waste in the metal manufacturing processes, to ensure best manufacturing practice.
- Analyze manufacturing process flows and floor layout for continuous improvement of safety, quality, cost reduction, and efficiency.
- Create and update tooling, fixtures, and quality gauges to support manufacturing.
- Investigate operational problems through Root Cause Analysis of non-conformances in the manufacturing process and work on corrective action and sustainment.
- Assist in collecting data-driven solutions for process improvements.
- Work with the Engineering team to evaluate and update manufacturing print errors through the ECR process.
- Work with production control and Engineering teams to ensure that released products have adequate BOM and routing operations.
- Reverse engineer and develop pattern models for manufacturing of tooling replacement components.
- Generate 3-axis milling code for manufacturing of tooling replacement components.
- Coordinate with Product/Tooling engineering to get replacement tooling when needed.
- Design material handling devices used by production units.
- Solicits observations from the operators/production teams.to identify needs and recommend process improvements.
- Confers with suppliers.
- Any other duties as assigned by your Manager.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Materials, or Applied Engineering or related field required.
- Five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role required (foundry environment preferred).
- Demonstrated experience with tool and/or pattern design and modeling required.
- Computer skills required in SolidWorks, MasterCam CAD/CAM package, and Microsoft Office required.
- Computer skills preferred in Geomagic ControlX/DesignX required.
- Experience with HAAS controller for 3-Axis Milling Machine preferred.

- Must have ability to work well with team members at a cross-functional level.
- Must be flexible and able to work well in a fast-paced environment and be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and smaller projects.
- Must be detailed oriented and a self-starter.
- Must possess analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of engineering, construction, and architecture.
